Yadda, yadda, yadda....
Its part of the job. Yeah, they pay us by the mile, but you get paid and that's the point. I've worked plenty of different jobs in my life, and if I whined like this about all of them - I'd never have gotten anywhere.
So fuel your dang truck, and don't be jamming up the fuel island when you go into take a shower!

i'm not exactly sure why companies would rather pay a lumper(ex-con) service $175+ to unload a trailer when they could pay the driver, maybe not 175, but at least 125?
i once asked a company(we had been to the warehouse several times before, so we knew the "deal.")before i even pulled the load if i could unload it myself and collect the lumper fee. They said "the paperwork/comcheck" was already done and put thru. Why don't they un do it? 4 mins at most? -
What about working 16 hour days and logging it as such? I did that a few times. (line 4, unloading). Cuts into your 70 without much gain.
Im sick of getting paid "paid miles". The company knows EXACTLY how many miles i need to drive to get to where im going. They've called me askign why i drove 10 out of route miles. If they can track it to that extent, why cant they pay me like that?
At CRST, all fleet managers are required to go on the road for a month. Ultra extreme sucky company though. I worked there for a while, i laughed so hard when i saw the fleetwides telling us which dispatcher was on the road. Hahahaha. -
Its not whining its merely stating all the stuff we do for free. I personlly like to get paid for doing things. I dont do this for my health I do it to make MONEY.

At my company, they got tired of paying workman's comp claims when drivers hurt themselves. Lumpers are cheaper than million-dollar injury claims.vongrimmenstein Thanks this.

honestly we do get paid to fuel the truck albeit indirectly. Tell me how many miles you think you can get without fueling. And we dont have full service truckstops in most places anymore in the US. If you go to canada you can get the truck fueled up for you.
Also, neat thing with that...if you get fueled at a full service station you supposedly dont have to log it. you werent the one fueling it. but you'd need the receipts for 8 days...
just dont park on the fuel island! i saw a sign once, "ATTENTION NON FUELING CUSTOMERS: Do NOT park on the fuel island. All unattended vehicles will be FUELED AT OWNERS EXPENSE" hahahahahahax1Heavy and vongrimmenstein Thank this. -
I have been driving for 29 years only because I cant make the kind of $$ that I make driving anywhere else. Now with that said there is a lot of B/S that we have to put up with and stuff we do that we (THINK) we dont get paid for, but in reality we do. Everything that you mentioned you is part of your job as a driver. One way to think of it that may help you and others, is to think of yourself as a sallery businesss man/ woman. You may not get paid for each of the items you listed separtley fro your driving pay but your driving pay is all inclusive to what we do out here, hence sallary. The other hard truth is that this job isnt for everyone and you may be one that needs to move on.48Packard, jbatmick, flyingmusician and 2 others Thank this.

You've been doing it for seven years! -
Fueling, scales, traffic etc... Its all part of the deal, we all signed up for it. There is not a job in the world that pays you for every little thing you do. In every handbook at any company you sign on too there is a section that states what youre responsibilities are. If you didnt read them thats on you.
Im an O/O and I dislike lumper services. Why we have to pay to deliver a customers order is beyond me. I understand it is a cost saving measure by the receiver, but all it does is make thier problem my problem. -
Hard to dispense fuel in to a tank when the cap is a locking fuel cap.
