Might of been true 20 years ago but now it all comes down to who has the best electrical system. After emissions electronics are probably the #2 reason trucks need to visit the shop.

Steer clear of Volvos. Mine is too roomy, way too comfortable, only gets 8 mpg and is way too quiet. Oh, never breaks either. Really boring truck.

Somebody mentioned resale? No idea what that's about. They are about the same as everything else.

Everybody knocks Volvos. Good, enjoy those Freightshakers!

Definitely the best riding and quietest Cab. I hear parts can be difficult to get, otherwise I’d be driving one just for the comfort. Resale ? They’re all worthless at trade time Lol

I’ve owned KWs, Petes, Frieghtliners, International and a Volvo. The only one I’ll never buy another of is a Volvo. Stupid wiring I think they buy their wiring from the same place Apple gets phone charger wires. Top it off it’s a lot more of pain to do routine maintenance. Had a VNL with a Cummins you had to be able to bend your wrist backwards to change filters.
    The driver loved it.

My Volvo is great. 120000 miles and just one brief trip to the dealer for a def issue covered by warranty. Get the D13. Cummins engines are loud and have a hyperactive cooling fan.

Tools come in varying quality. A Volvo is like a snap-on tool and all other trucks are like something you would get from Harbor freight.

Yes for the Trans but.. the Def system is made by Cummins. All the after treatment is made by Cummins. That said, I had a 13 780 that in 730,000 had zero issues. Never idled it, regular maintenance. Had a great dealer. If it wasn't 180k for a new one and I was going to run full time, I'd have another. Other than than the Volvo, glider for me. I would trust a Cummins as far as I can throw it.

You talking brand new if so the X15 has updated fuel pump and the D13/MP8 common rail is out now- to be determined what issues will pop up down the road.

The only experience i have with the MP8 is the 415C and 445C pulling 100,000LB frac pumps. 10 speeds and were geared too tall for off road work. 1400 RPM @70 but I was pretty impressed at how low it will lug and just sit there. Isx 12 425/1650 would fall on its face after you dropped under 1500 w/8LL 4.88 and 11r22.5

Isx was know for the ceramic plungers in the pump going and taking out the motor. D13/MP has injector cup issues. Earlier ones had EUP's ran off the cam.

Bout as much as i know about them

I has 2000 Volvo with 1999 Detroit S60 . People talk about the ride. They do ride good that's because the truck and mainly the cab is so heavy. It made of steel vs thin aluminum freightliner uses. So ride nice but you can haul as much freight.

The cab is the same they had back before even mine at 2000. Only thing they changed was hood style and inside. The actual steel cab has not been changed in like 20 years.

The dash board I never like because they shake and bounce in the road bumps. My 2000 Volvo had almost no screws in the dash. They did not fall out it how volvo designed them. That why the are so lose and shake and bounce going down the road. Another big mess up I think. If you look at a Volvo dashboard you will notice it doesn't sit on the floor. It bolted to firewall and those bolts pull out and they can't be tightened. I tried to get Volvo to tighten mine. They said it can't be done because the bolts pull out.. Volvo has that dog house cover like old cabover to acessa back of the engine. That why their is no support for holding the dashboard up.

If you look at Freightliner cab and dashboard being made. The dashboard sits on the floor and they built it up from the floor .that why they don't bounce or are so lose vs Volvo.

Volvo has the front axle set back so far plus the steel cab it put a LOT of weight on the steer axles. That's kind of problems but the real problem my 2000 had it put the front spring would wear out and the cab would lean and the back rubber bushing would go bad we're it hooks to the frame. I would definitely get a bigger steer axle rating like 13,500 or 14,000 if they have that, just so the springs and shackles we're stronger

The Volvo cabs are smaller unless you get the big one. I was never a fan of the volVo engine not sure how they are today but they had lots of trouble in the past with injector cups going back because I they used bass VS stainless steel like Detroit did even back on S60. If you want I-shift transmission it only works with Volvo engine.

Keep running dont worry, i sold my 2008 780 with D13 with 1,833,000 miles without inframe, original Eaton 13, the buyer has close to 2 mil on it, still running . After I purchased a used 780 2010 with D13 ,Eaton 13, for 20 grands , with 1 mil miles, to stay away from frozen DEF here in Canada, with this one , after 100k miles i had problems with bullgear , well was part of the risk, got a reman D13 with 350k warranty, running ok . This D13 2008-2018 motor is not prefect, most common problems with emission like all other brands and injector cups they lasted average 500k miles on my truck. I owned a volvo 770, 2001, and these 2 x780 i like the 780 huge sleeper plenty storage, great team truck plenty of power torque ,excellent fuel economy .
