Sounds right to me

 

No it’s not normal. Most likely, your trailer power fuse is blown under the hood. It will be in the fuse box by the steering shaft, should be a 40 amp fuse. It’s bigger than a regular fuse. Your trailer abs is lighting up because that center pin on the pigtail doesn’t have power going to it.

 

Yes it’s supposed to be constant voltage on center pin.

 

Yes. The trailer abs in normal operation only comes on when the key is turned on or the pigtail is plugged in. It comes on for 3 seconds. If you press the brake and it comes on for a few seconds, the pigtail pin isn’t getting power. If the abs light stays on no matter what, there is an issue in the trailer.

 

The abs light comes on when it first gets power.
If there is no power being supplied, it will still operate when you step on the brakes, as the brake light line is now powering the abs. That is why the light comes on when you initially step on the brakes , as far as the trailer abs is concerned it is only just now getting power so it does the power on self test at this time.
