Intructor in first day of backing class inadvertently trained the class to keep moving until something very happened.

Lo and behold Im in there idling back in bottom gear. You know that will take a while. I finally understood something and stopped at that spot.

Everyone leaned forward to see what I hit because there was air all around that rig. Instructor came out said what is the problem? You said keep moving unless I heard something very bad.

Instructor: [this word, combined with profanity and expressed with that sentiment does not mean your mommy and daddy were bad. Keep going back, don't be so #### slow.]

I spent that day evaluating that instructor. I had to think about everything that came out of him. The words that is.

That was not the instructor I needed to worry about. There turned out to be another. He prefaces everything with a roared version of my Last name if I am to be in trouble. If I am doing well when I am actually doing it, I don't exist. =) I wonder sometimes if he is still with us. It's quite a few years. I would hope so he had a family back home.

For those who have trouble, I had my parentage insulted by going way way too slow and holding up the apparent pace of backing class which was 21 of us and probably will break for lunch in about 5 hours time more or less.

Tell this guy about the camera. He will laugh at you. Talk about a skilled truck driver. Notice his attitude. Remarkable. Doesn't care about having to block traffic, just stayed calm and got it done! Amazing!

Anyone here ever backed into something like this? And if so, how long was it before you could do something like this?

That's insane!!! does anybody know the address to that place so if I ever get sent there I could tell my dispatcher to go to hell? And so I could add it to my custom avoidance places on my GPS.

Yeah that was nuts!!! LOL. I would have just parked in one lane and told the receiver, hope you got some fork lifts. LOL. No way in hell.

Yeah no doubt talk about high blood pressure.
Used to have to deliver to a gas station in downtown Fairbanks Alaska with a 53-foot tanker it was so tight getting in there was horrible and I had to back out from under the pumps across the street into a church parking lot through traffic to be able to make the turn to get out of there. Thank God I only delivered there about six times then I switch from local to OTR and never had to go there again.

Oh man, if you guys are having a hard time with backup cameras, you’re gonna hate the electric and hydrogen/electric trucks that are coming down the pike. Those things are all tech, and fleet owners are going to eat them up, since they have almost no moving parts and will be extremely cheap to maintain and fuel. Plus they’ll eventually eliminate the need for the most expensive and least efficient part of the trucking operation.. us! Don’t be afraid of tech, when it’s good it can change humanity for the better. Even when it puts us out of a job.

Everyone in the trucking industry agreed that technology is 15-20 years out before it literally began to eliminate drivers. Not happening. The trucks will still be manned and the initial phase of driverless trucks will only be in flat open areas primarily. It will happen, but a young person today can still get into trucking and make a career of it. Airplanes have been flying themselves for over twenty years now. And we still keep pilots onboard.

Why? Don't crash and it won't matter. My POV's don't even have them.

I can just picture a self-driving truck on mountain roads and ice. Just like the self-driving Tesla cars that keep killing people I don't think it's possible to program in a predictable response to unpredictable drivers.
If you're worried about self-driving trucks you need not in your lifetime, I know they have some test out right now but trust me you'll die an old man before self-driving trucks become the norm.
