Ok, so here's the deal. I've been off the road for a few years because I took an office job. The pay is great and obviously I'm home every day. One problem, I hate it. I'm looking to get back into driving with a goal of getting my own truck eventually. Any idea on carriers who will hire a guy with about 12 years experience (regional/local), but hasn't driven in about 3 years?

many consider that to be, no experience at all, and make you start all over again.

    meaning, refresher course.

look for local companies near you, maybe an LTL company. you might get a pass on going back for a refresher..

In all honesty I doubt anyone will care about the 3 years in the office. If you have a good record with nothing out of the ordinary I think most places will hire with 12 years experience. I've seen a few lately get picked up by good companies with far bigger gaps than that.

be careful..i did 1.5 years as a yardman/yard boss......i even took trailers to another warehouse nightly, which meant, on the roads...i was DENIED jobs for that 1.5 years.......i found a job at a local company. then moved on from that.

I'm sure there is some that wont, but from what I've seen in the northeast many local and regional carriers be it petroleum, ltl or whatever are desperate.

i am IN the northeast.....took a while for me to get a job after the yardman's work. and you'd think that (at the time it was) 30 + years would have gotten me into something...

no tickets, no accidents, clean as all heck.....

Thanks everyone. I'm just looking to avoid doing the whole Swift trainee thing again. I'll do it if I have to, but I'd rather not.
