TELL NO ONE WHAT HAPPENED IF POSSIBLE. If there are no witnesses, keep it under your hat. No damage. No problem. As long as you weren't being reckless or careless, I don't believe you should be fired.
Now, if you tear the front end off of another tractor, yes, you should pay the price. I saw this owner operator have his nice truck just scraped to heck by a Western Express driver who may or may not have noticed what he did to that truck. Obviously, this is a criminal act.
What I mean are little scrapes and dents. These big carriers can afford to pay for that stuff. But instead they choose to fire the driver. Probably due to insurance stipulations, but I still don't care. A better teacher would be to have the driver pay for damages through payroll deductions over time. But that's just too simple. -
