Well...... Wore guessed it!!

It is in deed a tachometer for checking rpm’s of shaft rotation. Used a lot on sawmills, steam engines, and other engines.

Looking closely you will notice 2 bumps, 1 on the body, and 1 on the dial. Align the the bumps then lay your thumb over both. Using a watch..... shove the sharp end into the center alignment hole on the shaft, each time the inner bump rubs under your thumb is 100 rpm. You can go 15 seconds then multiply by 4 to get rpm’s per minute or 30 seconds or a full minute.

Would anyone know what a Red Imp is...??? It’s a brand. I use to use one in my teenage years before I said screw it!! Flat leave your hide smooth for sure.

Thanks for the education @OLDSKOOLERnWV! I watched the video that @peterbilt_2005 posted and that gentleman was watching the two darts versus feeling them. I like your method better so you can concentrate on watching the time clock. Pretty neat tool.
