Hey @OLDSKOOLERnWV you said a Devilbiss....I bought an old Devilbiss from the company i haul for. I found an old one in a building at one of the plants i deliver to, just setting in the back piles of junk around it. It needs restoring but be a fun project, as I like old stuff like that.

This is the one I bought from them

The compressor pulley is right about 20". 10hp motor 3 phase. I already bought a 10hp single phase to put on it.

I dont really need it, but I hated to see them scrap it. It still works and pumps air just fine, but they took the 3 phase power out of that building and they cant use it anymore. I gave scrap price, we figured $50 was close enough. I guess I'm a horder for old stuff like that.

Sounds like you and @sawmill might need to do some horse tradin.

Bulk work like I do requires an actual blower. It doesn’t unload by pressure near as much as it does by volume. For example, a Tuthill 1050 blower will produce as much as 1200 cfm if I remember right. But that’s at like 18 psi.

Cool stuff right there. Devilbiss makes or made some cool stuff. Back when I first got into painting cars and stuff, them and Binks made the best guns you could buy.

Well I knew a old guy that I cant name drop. But he builds some big high end engines. He claimed that he would torque heads or head In a 3 day process. Now I understand this is impossible in fleet operations. His reason is exactly what you guys are talking about. He also could go on for hours about humidity and the effects of different metals being clamped together. But again this was extreme stuff and he had started this in early 60's.

    Sorry for the rant.

@ShooterK2 I will recommend this. I wouldn't give the torque a little more as you said. I would finish up and go work on something else, then hit them a second time on last torque setting before you put the 90° on them, if not over night.

And have you checked your head bolts for stretch with gauge or replace them yet?
