Judging by what I saw when there is YES, most at least. That whole gig with that company was one big em-bare-###-ment to me. It looks like in the last few months that they may be cleaning their act up, but most of the Werners I see yet are banged up somewhere. Take a look at the cab extensions on them. When at the Unsprungfield terminal, where I went for orientation, another driver and I walked around looking at the trucks. I'm not embellishing anything at all, the ONLY ones we saw that didn't have banged up extensions, were ones that were on the line to be sold. Those looked as good as new.

Make sure you take pictures of the truck inside and out before you move it. Have a witness when doing this. Or they will accuse you of damaging
truck. -
I took plenty of pictures and also filled out the inspection sheet and turned it in to my fleet manager. I kept a copy of it for myself too in case he looses it.

I'd take lysol, 409, febreeze, gas mask, rubber gloves and a hazmat suit. God only knows what surprises have been left for you in that truck. Under the mattress, in the door panels, on the seats, wiped on the shifter, hidden unknown area until the smell hits ya. Be prepared for the worse.

If you drive for Dollar General, I would say most of their trucks will have some kind of damage. I was a trainee on this account when I worked for Werner, and some of the stops are tight (older stores). We had to jack knife the tractor just to get the trailer to the back door at one of the stores.

Careful now... we don't want to turn this into a werner bashing thread....

yes, this is true, a lot of the Werner trucks on the dollar general account have been in accidents. It is so bad that they instituted a new company policy. If you have 2 accidents on this account you are taken off the account. Most of the drivers are in a hurry to get in and out of the stores so they can get to the next one. A lot of the stores I've been to are real tight to back into. I've had to call the police to block traffic on more than one occation so I could back in off the street. It's tough some times but I enjoy a challenge and feel proud when I can get it in on the first try without hittiing anything.

Bring a bat, Maybe the guy won't give the truck up.

Is it common place to call the police to aid in traffic control when backing into an account? All i have ever seen is trucks waiting for a gap in traffic (sometimes a long time) and going for it. Sometimes resulting in long backups and pissed off 4-wheelers. Oh well gotta deliver the cargo...
