Unfortunately it was a private sale so I'm stuck with it unless I can find someone else to buy it
-
The rack can be found for about $2500 rebuilt, look around.
The problem that bothers me is why does it need to be replace and why did you buy the truck knowing it was bad.AModelCat Thanks this. -
Not much luck finding a rebuilt one, only found one place so far and they are out of stock. Apparently they never lasted long which is why they were only used for a couple years. I unfortunately did not realize it was bad. Thought the small amount of play was elsewhere. The inner tie rods are loose enough that the company I'm leased to won't pass DOT on it. I'm not even sure they are bad enough to cause unusual tire wear but it is a steering component and I'd rather not save money by not fixing it, even if they would pass it

and that someone else, may be more aware of that particular situation, and will cut you down the price of a factory retrofit gearbox and all...
-
So freightliner doesn't have inner tie rod ends?
Not doubting you but FL has done some really stupid things in the past.
Have you tried this place -
Heavy Duty - Advantage Steering
There is a couple places up here in the Detroit area that deal with racks and I have never had them not find things for me I would have to dig into my records to find out who they are. I think one is Detroit Axle. -
OH just talking to someone, he is out in the west, he got rid of his cascadias because of this problem, but he said that Holst truck parts in Idaho have racks in stock. A little on the high side but there is a warranty.
-
maybe they take the core as well..???
he should inquire -
I'll check them out. Freightliner does not sell the inner tie rods. They only sold the whole assembly. I did a little more research after my last post and found a few more places that rebuild as well as some possible inner tie rods. Probably make some calls tomorrow and see what I can come up with so I can get it on the road then worry about the conversion later

Any updates for the rack and pinion I’m having the same issue here and can’t find one And I was told to convert it like the other style
