My wife and I have been married for 53 years. She's the best thing that ever happened to me and I wouldn't be where I am now without her.
Has it always been easy? Of course not. But if two people value each other as human beings and want to stay together they can do it.
Most people give up too easy and too soon.

    That's wonderful.

Let's see 2019-53 is 1966. WAAAYY different times than what we can see today. There is now way marriages today will even last half of that. Too much degeneracy and moral decay. I am shooting for that also. I'll post an update if the forum makes it for another 46 years (which ill have the 53 mark).

There are some valid points in this thread about several issues. I think the prevailing theme is balance. Balance in a relationship with a spouse and balance in society at large. We don't see enough of either today.

After 22 years with my husband, we're considered the old fashioned couple in our social circle. Old Southern is a term that has been used.

I have been a stay at home wife with a small equestrian side business. Something my girlfriends from college have always been horrified by.... I cook, keep the house, manage our life together. And I'm happy to do it. At the same time, I have bred, trained, shown and sold multiple champion horses in 3 disciplines.

There is a balance determined by priorities. If, as a man or woman, you cannot make your spouse the first priority in life, then marriage is never going to work. The joy and security that comes from walking through the years with your best friend is literally priceless.
