I have worked for drive star for some time now. at first I wasnt sure what I got myself into this whole independent stuff. I spoke to my lawyer and he explained everything to me and I was happy with his answer. if i'm going to become an independent i would be working for myself and i can not be treated as an employee. So no benifits. they do pay the WSIB because in Canada they have to take care of that, but the taxes are all me. I can pick my schedule when i work and when i don't if I was an employee they would tell me when i work and when i don't. as far as everything else they do have strict parking rules but once I got the hang of it that was fine. They have to treat you like an independent because you are your own business. I worked for other trucking companies in the past and I enjoy it here. lots of miles and good mileage rate I never know where I'll be from one week to the next. I read someones comment that the recruiter lies. I didn't get that, in fact he told me to do my research and get back to him. if he had anything to hide he wouldn't have done that. I hope I will be here for a long time.

well everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and i wont hide i am surprised by yours, but based purely off turnover rate.... which can tell you alot about a company....

@ the fellow who recieved a phone call saying they needed 300 drivers, thats not surprising, for the short period i was there i kept hearing that they needed anywhere from 50 more to 150 more drivers. Meanwhile im sitting around without a single texas run of new freightshakers (something i was hired on to do) and instead doing random other crap theat paid like #### for a good month, but hey, they need 300 more drivers..... suuuurrree.

I'm happily elsewhere, but i do hope this will serve as somewhat of a warning about a company that does advertise very aggressively but is no better if not worse than bottomfeeders like SGT and Schneider. At the same time, due to the post previous to this one, it is possible to be happy there aparently, i just find it rather amusing that every single driver i talked to while working there none of them were happy, but this annonymous fellow is. I wonder if it is an office type trying to save face on the forum for the company......

I'm not saying I'm 100% happy but I understand what working for my self is. Also just so you know. I'm not the oldest driver there. I was travelling with a gent from CA who has worked for them for over 7 years. It is not for everyone that's for sure. But it is better then owning my own truck and making just as much when I'm working. I havent worked in a week now because they are telling me it is slow. I wounder if I can tell my bank I won't pay them now because work is slow. I wounder if it will work LOL

I worked for DriveStar I loved the job. The dispatch was amazing and on point and Dan my direct boss was one of the best knowledgeable logistics person I had ever worked for. Though sometimes you never see home this was my choice I had months I took home 7k all meals are paid by company. I found the job suited me as my daughter is grown up and on here own so the pace was fine with me. I would note though if your not a self reliant person and a Problem solver this may not be for you .

########. Meals are unpaid. Lots of stuff is unpaid. There is a reason why this company always need drivers. Want to be treated unfairly? Work here. Dispatch is illiterate. They will make you waste precious time, as its unpaid
