Had one of those good run-ins today that cancels out a dozen dummy encounters, and thought of sharing the story.
I get to my first pickup and waiting for a door. I know the place enough to know I got about an hour. So I put on another pot of coffee and start catching up on this discussion. Few minutes later there's a knock. That was quick. Upon opening my door, I see it's another driver I met briefly while checking in, not the shipper. He's a nice enough guy from earlier. He's with a decent size fleet, but not a mega, doing the hook part of his drop & hook, and the dolly crank is jammed somehow and won't wind the legs up. Wondering if I know any tricks to make it work.
I must've fooled him into thinking I might have a clue, since I had on my work pants and steel toe boots, something you never see step out of anything attached to a reefer. Anywhoo, I put on my coat (it's 15º brrr) go survey the scene. It ain't budging and he's up under it tapping around with a little ball pien hammer.
I sez "It's obvious! Your pecker's too small!"
He looks back like he don't believe I said that, then gets it right away and cracks up.
So I walk back to my truck and whip out my three pounder and give it a couple licks. I guess some ice in the gearbox had everything locked up.
While working on it, he's telling me about picking up that very same trailer when it was brand new two years back, and last year it survived a head on collision. OK. Then he's telling my about his autistic son who's a tech wiz despite having social disabilities. That he recovered a video clip off a smashed dash cam from the crash that trailer was in. Nice. Not sure why I need to know all that, but ok.
So when he's done winding up the legs, he says "come up on the step and check out the video I was telling you about."
Apparently the other driver at his company was driving along I-90 up in Wisconsin last winter in some nasty conditions. He sees a pileup forming on the other side. Just then another big truck comes in too hot and takes the median. Flies across, right into the path of this guy. The video stopped about 1/2 sec before the crash. I think the kid probably cut the bad part, not that I cared to see that anyway. There were a couple still photos of the aftermath. Engine came up into the cab, but the driver survived and is still recovering a year later.
Made me think about keeping my eyes peeled when observing crash activity on the other side of the median. I can think of a few times I've seen carnage start on the other side of the road thinking glad I'm not over there, and I could have been that guy.
Anyway, then he flips past a photo of his 5-6 yr old daughter, posing in front of a cardboard box barbie house, mugging for the shot. She thought her teeth looked funny and asked daddy if she had gold teeth. LOL. Nothing wrong, just normal blotchy calcium in newly emerged grown up teeth. Cute as hell.
How cool is that? I guess I made a new best friend even though all I was trying to do is help the guy out a minute. He probably has no idea he probably made my day more than I did his.
I tried to get a shot of the sunset over Mt. Trashmore near Grove City OH

Guess I didn't wait long enough. A little father past the landfill, I got a better one.

Founders All Day IPA.
Boy is it extraordinarily average. -
Actually, I don't do that. A nice looking girl working in a bar or a restaurant is going to get hit on 10000 times a day. She's heard every stupid pick up line, ever sugardaddy offer, every dick joke, ever bootysniffing simp plea for attention...etc. And she has to be nice, because that's part of her job. It is lewd and improper to try to pick a woman up while she is on the job and has to be nice to keep her job.

But it's okay when they're on their mandatory 30 minute break, right ?
Ok ok, I'll quit hitting on the co-driver while she's driving.
