Hello All,
Long time lurker, first time poster here. I appreciate the wealth of knowledge found in this community.
I'm finally ready to pull the trigger and get my CDL learners permit. One of the requirements here in California is to have a Medical Report and Certificate (MCSA 5875 and 5876). I got these forms completed by a doctor back in April 2018. According to the FMCSA website, these forms should be valid for 24 months from issuance. My dillema is that on the top of both forms show an expiration date of 8/31/2018. My question to you all is are these forms no longer valid? If I were to submit these to the DMV when I go and take the permit test, will they not accept it even being within the 24 months?
Thank you all in advance!

You got a 3 month card, and it has expired. Sorry, you will have to get another physical and FIX the problem that caused you to get the 3 month physical.
-
You might not have been given a full 2 year card because of health problems they want you to address and if you did you need to go get another physical.
-
Apologies for not being clear in my original post. I was referring to the expiration of the form itself. On the MCSA 5875 the doctor checked that I met the standard for a 2 year certificate. I circled in blue the expiration in question on the photo.

I will have to watch this one, I just renewed my card and it says a 2 year but on the top it says expires 9/2019.

I admit I missed that this was a Form question. However, let me ask you this question. I am a US Air Force vet discharged on 4 Dec 1980. On the top of my DD-214 on the top left it says form 1 July 1979, then about an inch to the right a statement that previous editions of this form are obsolete. Does this mean that all the Military vets discharged before 1 July 1979 no longer have valid 214s? Does this mean that my discharge is no longer valid because surly since 4 Dec 1980 that basic form has been rendered obsolete?
I am not trying to bust your balls here, and I am not trying to be a smarty. Just trying to get you to understand forms are changed all the time. I don't know why the DOT put that expiration date on that form. It doesn't matter because the basic physical is still active.
I want you to get that CDL and go make some money. There are many drivers here retired as I am and others still driving that will help you every way we can. However, you need to stay calm and stop worrying about form expiration dates unless someone tells you clearly otherwise. If not you will give yourself an ulcer. This job is hard enough as it is. -
Thanks for your responses, guys! -
Some of the testing clinics are a joke. I'm in pretty good health but because of high blood pressure which is controlled I get a one-year card and the medical examiner's love it, I'm there cash cow.
Some of these clinics have been petitioning the FMCSA to add oversight for drivers who suffer with dandruff. Their studies show a diver could be scratching their head as they're driving down the road and pose a potential safety hazard those around them. Give it about 2 years they'll give you a 3-month card until you get your dandruff under control.. avoid the rush get a bottle of Head and shoulders today.
What a bunch of s***.motocross25 and Brettj3876 Thank this. -
Op, you are good till the date the doc wrote on your dot exam. Ignore the form expiration date.
