It's in the ad. I didn't question it because a couple of reasons. I know that AMC did build 401's and I did get to drive one a couple times in a Golden Eagle Jeep J-10 in 80 at this car dealer I worked at. Nicest vehicle on the lot in my opinion. I wasn't really a truck fan but I liked it better than the nice low miles Camaro 350 there. I wish I'd been able to buy that Jeep. Really nice black paint with big gold Eagle decals on the hood and fenders. Like the screaming chicken decals on a Trans Am of the time but classier imo. Rare one. I've never seen another one since. I "think" it was a 74. Ran great, especially for the malaise era.Feedman, cke, OLDSKOOLERnWV and 12 others Thank this.

IC 392 weight 754.7lbs with standard accessories.
Net HP= 217.5 @4000RPM
Net Torque=343@2400
AMC 401 weight 645lbs. with standard accessories
Net HP=211@4000RPM
Net Torque=326@2800
As you can see the two engines are pretty well mached, probably why IH choose it to supplement the 392. You may also like to know that much like the IH blocks the 401 used a high nickle iron for strength in their blocks, had forged cranks and rods and cast pistons. You get all that, similar power and a weight savings of 100 pounds. -
