Need some help with my d13 Volvo . for couples of weeks now I have hard tíme starting my engine it has a long crank after sitting for day or two,it did it like 3 times. after driving the truck comming to stop for fuel ,shut off the engine and start it again it will have a longer crank .If I repeat to fire it up will do it with no issue .I took it to a volvo dealer they replaced a some kind of a valve behind the engine head and still have the same issue . I replaced the water separator filter got some black flakes in there and also the other fuel filter us new.but I have a feeling after filling it up will have the same problem . Dealer has concer about my injectors and cups with was replaced this year in March . I will appreciate any advice .

Injectors and cups.........again. I will not do this repair at my shop any longer because of the repeat failure rate. Until they actually make the correct improvements for this problem, instead of putting "band aids" on it, I will not do the repair.

Come on now Locktite and Graphite Paste are supposed to go a long way. according to volvo. Everytime i do this repair i tell the customer before i can not offer them any warranty and if they agree then i do it otherwise to the dealer they go. but there was a dealer around here that had a special going on for a while did thewhole job parts and all for 3900 cheapest ive seen around. average span of new injectors installed by the dealer about 9 months just long enough so u get a second set within the warranty. i've had very good luck so far following their procedure with locktite primer and all also installing two o rings on the injector even thoungh they only say to put one on that doesn't seem normal to me.

I've been able to warranty the failed injector and cup, i pull all the injectors, the failed ones don't have that solid ring on the injector seat, so i replace the failed injector and cup, and volvo has been good about it and cover it, if a failure happens within the year of the six pack. And if the customer pays, then at least its a bit cheaper for the guy, becomes its terrible how these things can't keep injectors.

Has putting the two o-rings helped? have you noticed them lasting longer? Cause the issue is that the return fuel gets aerated, your suppose to also turn the injector back and forth before torquing it now, I've even tried doing final torque 120 degrees instead of 90 and that didn't help.

putting the second o ring will keep the fuel from getting aerrated a bit ive had a few truck come in that were having regen issues three four months with new injectors and when i hooked up ptt all i saw was that the fuel psi was messing up in the truck and it couldn't do a proper regen after trying a whole bunch of things i got it down to it had to come from injectors when i changed all the orings everything went back to normal and no more issues. so ever since then i don't even take the chance anymore just add the extra o ring anyway. so far return is very little from about 20 i have done only seen 1 back and even that one, i think one of my guys ####ed up and didn't tight the injector properly when i pulled it out it was loose so i replace one injector and the cup and no more issues, but with this time will tell. i just hate doing the job because i feel like im screwing the customer over even if it lasts 18 months it's just enough to be out of warranty it's still not fair to them to fork over another 3 or 4k just cuz parts are ####. that being said i doubt they would get any better results anywhere else, to me it just doesn't feel right.

I don't know if my injectors or the cups are the problem but it's weird like after shutting the engine down I put fuel and start will have hard cranking . if I stop the engine and start it again will start no problem . Also I have a bad fuel mileage 5.4.

I would say it's cups nothing else that can drop fuel psi that quick idealy with everything working propely you can have truck sitting for 2 or 3 days and it will start no problem

So a permenant fix for everyone......i have copper washers...we replaced cups with graphite paste lasted two trips...put copper washer forever fix on injector cups...problem is the piston/fuel explosion is so hot the graphite and everything just burns thru all of it.....only those copper washers will get rid of problem forever
