Will any flatbed work to haul heavy single coils 40,000lb+ or do you need a coil package? Can you haul coils on a step deck?

    cke Thanks this.

I'm hauling a 46,782 pound coil on a step deck right now. I've hauled them on flatbeds as well, but prefer the stepdeck since I'm a shorter guy lol.

As long as you have the proper amount of coil racks, plus beveled lumber and rubber mates, you shouldn't have a problem hauling a 40,000 pound coil on a flat or step.

    And proper securement of course.

We used a Ravens for up to 52000, it featured chain securements on edges of decking every two feet the pullup kind. I don't think they are made anymore or bought by reitenaour or similar.

as CMARONA463 stated you need those other items to make it work well. And a bunch of securement.

    Cabover9670 Thanks this.

Can a trailer be built with a well in it without affecting the usability to haul other items?

Used to have wells put in some new trailers, then made plywood covers so other things could load level. Pain in the rear. But cab be done. No not every trailer is suitable for coils.

What kind of step deck is it? Is just an average steel step deck built heavy enough for that much concentrated weight

    cke Thanks this.

I have an older trail eze 48' with hydraulic tail. I don't know if it's strong enough for heavy coils

Any flatbed can load a coil once.

40k lb should be no problem once in a while?

50k lb coils every day requires a spicific trailer.

So to answer your question the answer is maybe?

My answer is a “Big Bubba”.

I was looking at some specs on new trailers not that I plan on buying one but the new Dorsey steel step decks are rated 52,000lb in 6' iirc. Is that more than what most are?

    cke and jamespmack Thank this.
