White House steps up anti-cartel fight on border

WASHINGTON Hundreds of federal agents, along with high-tech surveillance gear and drug-sniffing dogs, are headed to the Southwest to help Mexico fight drug cartels and keep violence from spilling across the U.S.-Mexico border, Obama administration officials said Tuesday.
The border security initiative, which expands on efforts begun during the Bush administration, is aimed at drug traffickers who have wreaked havoc in Mexico in recent years and are blamed for a spate of kidnappings and home invasions in some U.S. cities.

Yeah, like these Civil rights big wigs are gonna let them do thier jobs... might as well send them down there hog-tied and blind folded. Lok what happened to the last two officers who shot a drug runner.

This is exactly what the National Guard is for and I hear thoughts are being passed around to send some troops. I pray that my unit gets sent but I doubt it will happen.
Government is claiming that 90% of weapons taken from the Cartel are from the states,,,,,,that is bull!

Army keeps peace in Mexico, but at what price?

(CNN) -- The power of the Mexican military was on full display Tuesday in Ciudad Juarez, where police reported the third consecutive day without a drug slaying.
Ten drug-related killings in a single day were common before 9,500 army troops poured into the blood-soaked border town in the past few weeks, said Mauricio Mauricio, a spokesman for the Juarez municipal police.
"It's a much more secure city at this moment," he said. "We haven't had murders with the same regularity and frequency as before."
But as President Obama's administration announced plans Tuesday to beef up U.S. security along its border with Mexico, there are questions about whether increased military and police efforts in both nations can yield long-term results.
