Hi everyone. My husband is set on getting his CDL and I support it 100% but I am concerned about how long it will take to actually get paid once he starts. Can someone give me a realistic idea so I can plan financially for when he's gone? I was thinking about six weeks from the first day of class until his check? He's looking at Pam Transport in Indiana, and Millis Transfer in Ohio. Thanks everyone!
Once in school, how long until first paycheck?

When he has his CDL, orientation is touch and go. Some are paid that week with first pay within two to three weeks.
The problem is road expenses. You have the potential to eat your next pay if you do not already have savings.
9-11 was our ultimate trouble. Destroyed the third party pay people for 6 weeks for us. We ran on our savings rather than take unemployment to keep the medicines going through. -
Kristen3741 Thanks this.

Roehl Transport pays from day one of cdl school. They hold back 3 weeks then give it to him.
If he can hold out for Millis Transfer though, he'd be better off. Probably make $50K his first year. then it goes up from there.Vic Firth and Kristen3741 Thank this. -

If he goes to Millis then he may get paid right away. I will be quite honest with you. I went thru C1 in Indy, with PAM, it is a horrible program. Go through Millis. They have a good training program.
If he is anywhere near their terminal in Hamilton OH, look into Napier Truck Driving Academy. There he can get his cdl and go anywhere. Tell him to ask about the WIA program. That program will pay for everything and give him a stipen too. And when he graduates he can choose any company he wants. That is ultimatley how I got my cdl and it worked out well.Kristen3741, Vic Firth and Chinatown Thank this. -
