When unloadingyiu will return vapor back into your trailer. It's not normally a problem because we go back to our plant and load the same product. We blow down to 240 lbs, therefore the vapor you accumulated during unloading is then blown out the exhaust stack.
Occasionally we have customers where we don't return vapor. Those actually suck our pressure down.
We normally run CO2 at 250-275 psi while in transit. Summer and sunshine raises the pressure up. Too much and the safeties vent it out while we are rolling down the road.
Most private carriers...Messer, Praxair and Air Gas return to the same loading point. I.e plant. Contract carriers at our plant have to vent load because we don't want our product contaminated with vapor from someplace else.

    x1Heavy Thanks this.

I reread your post and as to the second point. Trailers are designated to haul only 1 type of gas. We haul CO2. I can't load Oxygen Nitrogen Argon or any other gases into my trailer.
    Did that make sense ?

But...BAG gases such as ni,ox and ar can be hauled in the same aluminum vessel after proper conversion and certification but must then be used solely for that liquid unless converted again which would be rare and kind of a pia.

Dennis, is right. I work at a solely CO2 plant. Air separation plants can as he stated use the same vessel for different types of gases.
We call this purging. We run the vapor up and down 3 times then test 2000 lbs of product.
I'm not for sure if the fittings would remain the same for the different gases. It's expensive to purge a trailer. Paying for the drivers time and all the time involved plus testing, I can't see where a large outfit would do this on a regular basis.
Besides all our trailers are stencilled with product and placards. That would be a lot of taping involved.

Dennis, are you guys having a hard time finding drivers? We are and I don't know why. Big outfits like you and I work at pays for all time and activities. Don't hardly ever get dirty and worry about being told to do anything illegal.
Go home every night, or if you chose to layover on a trip, the motels are paid for and you get $30 to eat on. No cap on the price. Just find a motel that you can park at and take your break.
We never get told to hurry up and do anything unsafe. Most customers we never see anyone. Just unload and go.
I can't see why we don't have a line of applicants winding out the door.

    We are.
Hired our first muslim driver and our first woman driver. Not normal hires here.
Another just started last week and a ex fuel dispatcher started last night.
Looking to hire 5 more but It's going to be difficult to do.
Hardly got the equipment to meet demands now.
We get 40 for food and after the tough winter all customers are running out of product.
We have been taking OT volunteers since January and have contractors working here.
Chicago and Kansas City are doing work we normally do.
Some of us are doing 2 layovers a wk.
