No you can not make more money local.
    Dont get carried away.
Just say you can't handle the road.

All those problems you described are your
Fault for letting it happen to you.
    Nice guys finish last OTR.

Learn to say no, or get run over and abused.
Everything you described are rookie problems.
Those of us who survived that phase of
Are careers no longer have those problems.

At some point you have to draw a line in the sand
And tell them, no more working for free.
Be prepared to find another job if nothing changes.

Your gonna work longer, harder and make half
Of whet most expierenced OTR drivers make
    At that local job.

You think those of us who been out 20 years
    Don't know the real deal.
We've all tried that local job thing.
Most of us a couple times, trying to get
    Off of the road.

Then we look at that measly paycheck for all
The hours of work we put in and say f-uck you.
I'm not working like this for 3 to 5 hundred
PER WEEK less than I made on the road.

What are you gonna get 18 bucks an hour.
    Whippdy doo.
    That's 720 bucks before taxes.
That's 2 days work for some of us out here.

I've had 50 different jobs in 25 years.
    Plenty of local jobs included.
The only one that ever paid OTR money
    Was the oilfield.
And that was only when you worked 80
Hours a week getting all that overtime.

When it dropped to 40 hours because things
    Slowed down everybody quit.

Unless you get on with a LTL carrier doing
    Local work your screwed.
There the only ones that will pay anything.
Other than that it's 17/18 bucks an hour
    All day long.

Nice guys do not finish last. I'm a nice guy. I'm looking to add trucks and drivers. And I'm not looking for ### holes. Turned down a bunch of dudes cause I figured they'd be weak players, or PIA.

But the people I'm building with are all pretty square gents and gals. Why would you want to be involved with anyone else?

    speedyk and bzinger Thank this.

Pretty crazy for you to say I can't make more money local. You don't know me or anything about the location I live in.
local work which I did all last summer working on eielson air Force Base for high davis-bacon driving a belly dump for $62 an hour.

fuel hauling from Valdez terminal to Petro star refinery pays about $580 a trip that takes 14 hours. We get 15 hours of drive time here so that's one day.

local in state running to prudhoe Bay from Fairbanks which is a flat fee for most companies up here pays $1,000 a trip takes two days.

maybe you guys in the lower 48 don't have access to jobs that pay that kind of money locally but I do.
    So for me it's better.

By and large most local gigs in the lower 48 do not pay as well as otr. There are exceptions, and it is highly dependent on location. I could make more running local in Chicagoland, but I would have to live in Chicago, which costs more (both financially and in living comfort) compared to NE WI, so I would net less.

Yes sir I definitely understand that.
In Alaska though there is some really high-paid local jobs then I guess you guys don't have available to you down there.
So what I was saying earlier is for me it's better to stay local cuz over the road I was making $0.55 a mile and half the time they would find a way to screw me out a part of that.

99.9 percent of us don't live in Alaska.
    We're smarter than that.
Don't ever plan on coming to the lower
48 and getting anything close to those wages.
I'll say again, 95 percent of local jobs don't pay crap.

    Coover and fss99701 Thank this.

    Yes I definitely understand that.
Only reason I ever went down there is just to try over the road cuz I had never driven in the lower 48 just in Alaska and Canada.
With the wages I was making down there compared to what I'm used to making I felt like a immigrant fruit picker.
