Looking to get another truck. What's the concensus on these two motors? Not interested in Paccar or Maxforce.

Detroit. ... too many expensive repairs on Cummings. new ones supposed to be fixed now but they say that every year . I have never liked Detroit but this one I have is at 700k and I got it 6 months old a team truck with 125000 on it most of the problems happened below 400 k with the warranty . thats a 2012

I have 4 2014’s with Cummins. I bought 2nd owner Encore warranty coverage on all of them through Cummins. It’s the only way to go IMO. As they come off warranty I’ll be replacing them. They’ll have 500 to 600k at that point. 2 have been overhauled through the warranty program. One due to carbon packing and the other due to the fuel pump tappet problem.

If it tells you anything the first one coming off warranty is actually one of the overhauled engines. It’ll only have about 100k on the rebuild but she gone.

I haven't had any major issues with the emissions. ... did change filter around 300 k but probably wasn't needed but I didn't know any better . you cant idle and you need to run 14 or 15 on the tach which on mine is 70 ..... never had any major issues some minor things like the plastic fittings in the coolant hoses around the Def tank a couple of air leaks in the Def pump but not expensive things I think 300 tops and I think the replacement parts were better than the original because they are fixed I haven't had any issues in a couple of years. .... motor wise changed the o rings and the plastic pickup lines and that was 850 and included the oil and filter change ...... when it was under warranty had a few things but nothing major ...... I always liked Cummings but my nieghbor had a 13 isx and started having emission problems and they wanted 20 grand to fix it so he let the truck go back

Yeah dont get me wrong I LOVE Cummins engines. I have 8 trucks and every single one is a Cummins. I’m just saying take certain precautions before owning one. If you are the 2nd owners and it’s under 6 yrs and 600k then I’d be all about buying it and then putting the XT1 Encore warranty on it. They are good engines it’s just if you do have a problem it’s big bucks. My X15 engines are performing flawlessly so I have high hope for the future.
