Distracted driving - writing down mileage

I use the notes app that we all have on our phone.
I just speak into my headphones whatever the
Mileage is and save it.
At the end of the day I clear them
All out.

 

Take a pic with your phone. Just make sure the flash is on if it's dark out. Hehehe

 

Lol, I just make a mental note of it and write it down when it’s safe.

 

good idea but I have a bad habit of not stopping in a given state sometimes. not trashing your idea, just pointing out that some of us don't stop as often. I personally stop usually twice in a shift. once for nature and once for my 30. and of course the end of my driving shift.

 

Our ELD's also record the IFTA/IRP information. We never have to write down the miles for each state.

 

Pre-ELD I either had GPS trackers provided by the company that did our IFTA filing, so no recording of mileage required, or I used GPS/MS Streets and Trips/Google Maps, so no recording of mileage required. We are in the 21st century after all.

I alway wear a shirt with a pocket when driving. The pocket always has a pen and paper in it to record the mileage at each s/l. Of course, at times I must use my memory until its safe to record the mileage. I have used the hwy mile markers when I forgot the actual mileage.

The Big Road ELD I use does record mileage, but my it's not very accurate.

The laws were less strict back in the days. It was legal to use your phone while driving and who knows what else. Now, they catch you eating a corn dog and you’re busted by the popo.

I write mine down on a small notepad. As others mentioned, you usually only need to write down the last three numbers. When you’re stopped, you can fill in the rest. I’ve known about the voice recorder method, but I wouldn’t like using it because then you have to transfer the information to paper. I’m a bit lazy.

I think a legit case can be made that writing down the mileage is no longer necessary if your device tracks down the miles driven in each state. Big fleets are not having their drivers write it down. Why should we?
