I can shift gears but prefer not to. The only time I do is when going in reverse sometimes and even then it’s not that big of a deal.

I have been in a '18 t880 with a 10 speed eaton AMT behind the paccar engine the past few days. I hate the transmission. It loves to short shift and lug up to speed instead of accelerating through the gears. Backing with it has been an exercise in frustration. Only way I have been able to back smoothly with it is by getting as straight as possible with minimal constant throttle pressure. Any kind turning that put extra resistance on the driveline causes the truck to stop and require throttle input that results in sudden bursts of movement akin to dumping the clutch pedal with a manual. Only two things I like about it is it makes stop and go city traffic easier and it's got a helluva engine brake. As far as the truck itself it's not bad but I think I prefer the smaller cab of the T800/W900.
rank Thanks this.
