No joke, I know someone who did exactly that. The problem was that the paper money deteriorated and he had to take it to a bank and get them to verify the notes with the Federal Reserve, which was a time consuming process. Also he probably lost a portion because of fees and some was probably too far gone to be evaluated and verified.
The entire reason he did it was to avoid the bank. The irony is that the bank was the only one who could help him reclaim the moldy money.

I don’t bury money or valuables.
If a man was going to do that: bury gold. It doesn’t go bad. And if you lose it you get a metal detector and voila.

Your right, and I hope I didn't come of judgmental. Don't mean to be. I am simply sharing some learned info. Things I have learned and still learning. To be honest before age 29/30 money smoked in my wallet. Had a good job, worked hard and bought and did what ever I felt like. Man was I stupid. This wasn't a good lesson from my dad. I mean he did ok over all the years and lived a good life. But when business was up he was diamond Jim buying new equipment and when it was down he was selling equipment. It was always feast or fathhom. I like to diversify and try to balance everything out. I did not inherit the one gene from my father that I could use of not worrying. Now with that said. And HP can make fun of me all he wants. Having a child later in life means she will be rather young when I leave this place anyway you look at it. I will not allow me and my wife to become a financal burden on her at any age.

I respect a lot of people on here, and have gotten a lot of great idea from the folks on this page, and like having intelligent conversation. This is no different than building engines or trucks.

Pete thought he was out-thinking all those crazy Exes, so instead of burying it under a tree in the backyard where he couldn't watch it all the time, he buried it at Sea. He was three fathoms down before he realized that he'd sunk the boat.

But Pete catches on a lot better than a lot of people give him credit for. He only lost three boats before he figured out that way wasn't gonna work.

Pete quit carrying shovels onboard after the third one. I told y'all he's sharper than y'all think.

If you don’t save, you won’t have.

Our bathroom is almost done. Just waiting on a two piece glass partition/ door.
    Came out purty good.

Play it a song and it unearths itself?
I hadn't thought of that! Capital notion!

(I know, Ruthless, violà - the proper spelling of 'walla'.) ;)

No, you weren't being judgmental. I was being defensive. My fault, not yours. I didn't mean to imply that you were saying anything wrong. I was only adding a caveat to the approval I gave by Thanking your post.

I can’t and won’t ever poke fun of a man taking care of his wife and kids. Fact is I agree with what you said and I’m a big Dave Ramsey fan. I don’t care much for the “whole cheap freight thing “ and not pointing at you, but what is cheap? When people try to tell you a dollar amount they are clueless. It has to do with margins and ratios. I think 10 or 15% net profit is cheap. That said there are a heap of folks with 5 to 10% margins and they are happy. And that is all relative to expenditures. So it’s a rabbit hole I don’t care to go down
