New guy here. I test for my cdl-a this wednesday-in 6 days and two left in drivers school. Driving forward is no problem, have had a good grasp on clutch driving as that is all I have ever drove. Backing has been tricky, but I have learned how to get close and fix it w/ a couple pull ups, enough to pass if I don't choke. Pre-approved w/ werner and stevens wants me to call, just can't get through. Swift, transam, usa, and tmc have chosen to ignore my application. I am the most pumped in my class. Wanting to drive and get better are my goals, and I go as quick as possible to learn more. Jog to get in the truck, but I go slow enough to learn. I don't stand idle like many around me, I attack/keep occupied. that is all i can think of.

Thanks. I am pre-approved w/ werner. The other companies I guess did not like my work background. I have vacationed and worked for myself a bit too much.

A neighbor runs a route to fast food places and makes 1150$ a week. He said beginners make $850. And he only does 2 runs, but could do 3 and he'd have 1450$ week. So I applied, but I am told by friends not to take it IF I get the job because it is a veterans type run and if I hit 2 signs I am fired. Having no experience and this on my DAC will kill me, so take the werner job and get 1 year and then (18) wheel and deal. Curious about opinions on this, 850 seems like a lot of cash. I have no experience and driving up to wendy's/etc. will be a tight fit in some places.

Today I was nailing my maneuvers. I test in two days, and finally on my own I am nailing them w/ no difficulties that will make me fail my cdl. Happy feeling.

for any concerned I just passed my cdl test today. Friday I'll get the license. Tomorrow is my last day of driving school. 10 hours in class and nothing to do. Did the final exam, survey and computer work, and even did half of the extra computer work they just added that is not required. I can't help out as one instructor deems it a distraction, despite my perfect score on the pre-trip. I guess he lost a bet on me, lol.:biggrin_25520:

Congratulations! My hubby was a trainer at one time, and couldn't stand when trainees didn't know how to shift, so kudos to you!

Best of luck to you! have fun and be safe!

    Cheers!

Not trying to worry you but $800 a week for a new driver woud be great, heck it would be considered great by some of the experianced drivers with the way the economy is right now. From what I experianced, saw and heard $400 to $500 for new drivers is about right. Used to be a lot better but I think thats my fault. Seems as soon as I decided to go ahead and drive a truck like I always wanted to do the economy dies! Sorry everyone.
