Yes. Yes. And they should fire you. Why should they keep you?

Not trying to be a buster, but if somethings too tight to drive through, you don't drive through there. That's stupid. Yes, I know what you did. You got against a mirror and chose to keep going. You hooked a bumper and chose to keep going. That was stupid. As soon as things got tight, or you made contact, you should have stopped. You didn't. You CHOSE to pull through.

If you want to drive, you can't go around hitting things. Period. You chose to. So, that makes me question whether or not you want to drive. Do you want to drive? If you want to drive, you'd better start taking the job seriously and get your head out of your arse.

Are they even bothering to teach the greens that the truck, in fact, has mirrors?

I have heard of video cameras sending live feed to internal mirrors on say your Cab's A pillars. I'll have to hunt for that source to see if I can locate it. You can dispose of the breakable mirrors on the outside of the truck all together. Who needs them? Just spend a few thousand in cameras.

Contact your dm abojt safety points.
Each drive cam event you accrue points. Some are low and some are high.
Once you reach 80 points safety fires you.
Event falls off in 90 days and you have certain amounts of points fall off in a month.
Speeding tix definitely go on your mvr.
The accidents most likely won't. But they with go in your file with swift and probably on dac report.
Slow down!! And start watching your mirrors!

You would think that some of these guys never made a mistake in their entire lives.

Here's the deal, experienced drivers cringe when equipment is tore up so needlessly. At least the experienced drivers that take pride in performing their jobs well do. And that is what we have going on here in this thread.

To answer your questions, yes, you can be fired for tearing off bumpers and busting mirrors. These incidents, as they are called, go on a report with your company. For an accident or incident to become serious, it has to become DOT reportable or recordable. This kind of thing probably won't happen on private property, but rather on public roads.

If you are fired over doing what you state that you did, don't tell your next prospective employer. I could be wrong, I don't believe backing booboo's can be found out by prospective employers.

Unfortunately, the trucking industry isn't what it once was. Forty years ago, the truck driver was well respected because he had a tough job, but it was one that he did well. Nowadays, you can hardly turn on the news without seeing a truck involved accident somewhere killing, maiming, and shutting down an interstate. These kind of crashes eat away at what respect truckers do have left.

And this trend is only becoming worse with these mega carriers just being cdl mills, giving no care to training new drivers well. Even worse than that, the DOT themselves contribute greatly toward creating unsafe roads for everyone by not cracking down more harshly on carriers who are serial safety offenders. The problem with drivers who don't read, write, or speak English adequately enough is also worsening.
Then there are weigh stations that are only there to generate revenue, and create needlessly dangerous merge situations.

The moral of the story is that you need to be careful in what you do. These big rigs are no joke. If you can tear off a bumper at two miles per hour, you can crush a Honda thirty miles per hour just as easily.

I am going to go out on a limb here. It is only a hunch that you are fairly young. The need to go fast shouldnt be in your job description. The only time you will get a qualcomm to scream at you from overspeeding is when you go down a hill too quickly. Get off the throttle when you crest a hill, try to remember you want to be in one gear lower than what you needed to climb the hill. This isnt rocket science. Most loads that you will get will give you plenty of time to get there. Yet this doesnt mean only drive at 50mph either.

When leaving a parking area. Never turn your steering wheel until after you are clear of the trucks you parked next to. Remember that as you turn, the back of the trailer will pivot. When the trailer pivots in the turn, the opposite end of the trailer you cant see is now acting like a wrecking ball. Parking lots in a parking lot for trucks are long. Long enough for you to drive straight out of the hole you parked in. When the trailer clears is when you can start manuevering. Yet if you are already too close for you to manuever in just driving forward, then you shouldnt be conccerned about moving. Go look at the neighbors truck. Is there room for them to skooch over a bit so you can pull out?? Believe me, they will gladly move over to the side a bit when you pound on their door and tell them you drive for swift and your concerned about hitting them when you want to leave. Heck, they might even spot for you when you want to leave.
