    On the old plates. Did you brush the paint on the raised letters? Or did you use the plastic stuff (can’t remember what it’s called) that you sand off with a block to reveal the raised parts so you can spray em?

    No. You shoot the whole plate in the background color, and let it dry. Then lay this plastic film over it, stick it down good. Then you can take a flat block or, if you’re careful, a DA, and sand the plastic back off of the raised parts while keeping the background covered. Now you can spray the letters without it getting on the background.

    I haven’t seen it used on tags, but on other things with raised or inset lettering.

    I shot em tan first then laid 4" tape on em, cut the letters n numbers out with a razor blade then shot the orange, unmasked an cleared em.

    I saw a guy spray a whole plate; then used a short nap 9” paint roller over top to do the numbers letters and surround lip.
