Part of that is where you are. In Wisconsin it's full of those types of loads. But that's why you call your FM and they are suppose to nip it in the bud. That happened to me last week actually. I still ran over 3,000 miles but local and regional guys are suppose to get majority of those roads. You will have to do short runs from time to time. For example yesterday I kicked up at our drop yard in Mass delivered it 7 miles up the road for a 1,000 mile run. Reason being they had no empties at the yard. Guys will see the little run and complain complain complain. Keep in mind you arent seeing the big picture. Sometimes that short run is moving you out of a bad area to get to a good area so to speak. It always pays to never complain about the loads they give you. Now if you are getting like 6 in a row just kind of say hey what's going on. That's why I got all ling loads this week. The planners take note of who works hard and who doesnt. If you are constantly delivering late or not figuring out how to get it done they will plan you less loads. I mostly get planned time critical now. Meaning some of my loads I have like 5 minutes to spare. Flatbed is mostly M-F and my buddies mostly reset over the weekend. Dryvan we run 24/7. In theory we all make the same amount of money but I'm having to run harder to make what they make because I dont tarp

Also at least in dryvan I've found appointments mean nothing. Most of our customers are small warehouses. They will make you an appoint for like 11 AM when in reality you can show up whenever. I show up right when they open and can maximize how many loads I do that way. Flatbed I dont think can really do that but you will still do relays mostly to Gary or other yards set up to resupply your truck

Also people are quick to blame but dont realize the problem might be them. Whenever I ask people who complain about miles the common denominator is they usually go home all the time. Keep in mind they will keep you where they know they can get you home ever if the loads are short. My buddy greg goes home very infrequent and he is all over the place.

I got my permit today and applied online. Just curious what if I make it to the CDL test phase and don't pass on the first try. From your experience are they willing to work with you and give you a few extra try's ? If I got sent home I think I would still be on the hook for $7000! Thanks
