"the "suggestive sales" piss me off though!"
I agree with Panhandle: I can't count how many times I've said "Did I ASK for one?"

Yeah, but how many times have smokes or chew been on sale two-fer-one?? Marlboro smooths are on sale here 2-4-1, and If the lady hadnt told me, I woulda never known. I would've spent 6 bucks on one instead of two.

    .
    Alert !!!!

This thread, along with at least a dozen I have posted. Shows just how petty some can be over things that don't bother others.

And how easy it is to further frustrate a driver having a bad day.

After working in the retail industry for over 10 years before I became a truck driver, it doesn't offend me if they ask me "is that all?" Sometimes that question reminds a person that they have forgotten to ask for an item that only the cashier can retrieve. Like a pack of cigarettes. Or something else that is only stocked behind the counter. I know where they are coming from, having to interact with lots of people during their shift, and some of them may have given them a hard time.
I always try to respond in a kind manner, hoping to bring a small ray of sunshine to their bleak and dreary day. Especially if she is cute.
As far as the suggested sales pitch, I am not too fond of those. But, they are just doing as they are instructed by their supervisor. They are not only pitching fries and a drink, but they are also wanting to make sure that a customer didn't actually want a value meal.
So, lighten up driver. You aren't there very long (I hope), and they don't mean any harm to your psyche.

I totally agree, but when they do the hard sell thing, it sort of irks me because it's like Spam, but in your face.

So there is a five second frustration there. To answer the cute cashier, it's more like "No, so How YOU Doin'?

No offense, but they are not the only clueless Ones. No one is questioning your integrity. Where are you getting these ideas? This is not a habit. Cashiers are required to ask, if you need anything else or "suggestive sell" another item. I tend to ask, if a drink is wanted when someone buys food. Anything, that ties in with the existing purchase. Do I want to do that??? No, it's part of what is expected and required. We get "Secret shopped" all the time and if we miss any steps, we get points taken away. The results are sent to Corporate and repeat offenders will get punished. I understand, that you are annoyed and offended by this practice. Try having to repeat all these things to each and every customer all day long. I don't know, where you usually stop. I am sorry, that your encounters have been unpleasant. I can only speak for my store, but we love our drivers. They are the reason we are there. I have seen a few posts about T/Ss catering to the RV crowd, well, we are very much in favor of the Drivers. I hope, you will come to my Travel Plaza one of these days and see what we are like. By the way, I had an encounter with "did I ask for that?" today. This guy was very rude and walked away, because I asked him, if he wanted anything out of the hotcase, after I saw him looking into it. Maybe someone posting here????

Patientone, just keep doing what you are doing. A GOOD JOB, and FOLLOWING ORDERS. Thunderbird is stretching to gripe about something.
as i have posted, alot of drivers forget ther sole reason for stopping, so thanks for reminding us.

Thank you Crotts for your support. I am not sure, how I feel about the Following Orders bit. Feels a little bit like a pat on the head. "There, there, good little cashier":angel4: LOL . Sorry, couldn't resist.
Yes I try to follow Corporate policy. I love my job and don't want to lose it. I also try to make sure my cashiers follow all the rules. Seems like we are always breaking in someone new. I want to thank all the nice drivers, for being patient with the new girls.
Thanks to all who replied to my post. You guys made me feel welcome and I appreciate that very much. If any of you read my introduction on the welcome wagon, you know I was on the road with my ex and know about the hardships of a driver's life.:angel12:
