So fellas. I know a lot of you in this thread have built truck engines before. I've really got to sit down and think what I should realistically do in terms of new parts on my engine. At a bare minimum it'll be a complete reseal, new pistons/liners, bearings, headgasket/spacer plate, pump plungers and injectors. I don't know if it'd be worth throwing a new oil pump, turbo and head on this engine. It might run 25-40 hours a year. Thoughts?

I would have a machine shop work your head just for peace of mind. Checking and setting the spring tension and a valve job is fairly inexpensive. The turbo I would run if it's good. Oil pump I would tear down and inspect then go from there. Most likely the oil pump is fine

Kind of what I was thinking. I was going to clean up the carbon from the head real good with a fine wire brush cup and buy some crack detection spray. If I can't find any cracks then I'll move ahead with getting it to a machine shop. I'm not against spending money but I'd rather not fork over a huge amount of money to do this engine when its not going to be earning me a paycheque. I was going to replace the turbo seals though for peace of mind. I'm definitely going to get the pump turned down to the stock 375hp setting. I don't really see the point of a 500+hp single screw that might pull a 10k lb RV 2 or 3 times a year.

Wow still snow on the ground? It'll be gone here in another week or so. Its going to be in the low teens here today (mid 50's F).

You going to change out that water pump while you have it torn down??? @AModelCat

Oh of course. Forgot to mention that. Will probably replace the power steering pump shaft seal and the entire compressor as well. My wet tank had a ton of oil in it so its probably finished. Going to add an air dryer to the air system as well.
