I’ve heard the sand box guys are really screwing it up for the pneumatic guys. But, that’s all here say on my end. I’ve got no knowledge of that world first hand

Thanks @Grubby! They still running the FAST Series out there, that was awesome to see tracks actually working together for a change. On of these days I'm going to make it to Attica and Indiana Sprint Week - love non-wing racing.

@OLDSKOOLERnWV explain to dummies like me how those hit/miss engines work and what was with the "release" every few strokes?

The “release” is the engine firing. The flywheels you see there keep the crank turning when it’s not firing. A lot of machinery uses flywheels to store energy like a hay baler for example.

When a hit and miss engine is running the governor holds the exhaust valve open so it has no compression or intake. When it slows down the governor lets the exhaust valve close and the next stroke pulls the intake valve open by vacuum drawing in the air fuel mixture and initiates the spark. It fires then the governor holds the exhaust valve open again until it slows down. They’re surprisingly powerful and efficient

Oh well, here's to another 50 years of waking up every morning with all of the signs that I'm still alive. (pain).

Had a friend wanted me to meet up with him and ride to Daytona. I have no interest in getting harassed by Johnny Law.

a valve is held open by a governor until the speed drops to a predetermined setting then the valve closes to allow one or two power strokes. that is the release you hear. after the power strokes the heavy flywheel speeds up, the governor again opens the valve until needed again. they where noted for a good power source for slow speed belt drive operations with good economy with a variety of fuels of differing quality.
