Buy some houdini lock lube off of Amazon. $9 a can, last for ever if you're only lubing one lock.
Once a month when dry or once every 2 weeks when wet/snow/salty will do the trick.
When I was a school bus mechanic I was responsible for locking up the school bus lot gates. I had one lock that was seized because it was never used. I couldn't even rotate the shank it was so badly rusted. I put 2 squirts of houdini in it and waited a couple hours... That was 2 years ago and the lock still works perfectly to this day. (that is with me applying houdini the way previously mentioned ) -
I see the round, keyed locks on a lot of HHG container loads. They are often exposed to salt air for weeks or months on end, have only seen one that was rusted shut. But, if they are, they have to cut off with a torch, grinding wheel won't do it.

Great lock. I've had the same Abloy lock for 12 years. Keep it lubed, opens without a problem in all weather conditions.Slowmover1, PE_T, snowlauncher and 1 other person Thank this.

I did have to get my sledge on it this winter. Too much ice. Other than it becoming an ice cube it's been great. I even used the key to key the deadbolt on my house. Go big or go home I guess.

Found them on Amazon.....

Wow. They haven't used that key type in 50 years. Guess that shows how versatile the core fitment is.

Buy a quality lock and take care of it. Clean and lube the lock cylinder with PB Blaster. I spray that #### on everything.

Proper maintenance makes thing last a long long time. For some reason, people fail to understand that.
