Ouch. I can imagine how you feel man. You didn't have a prehire, did you? I'd hate to think I'm sacrificing everything into one pot to be turned down before getting started. Magnum sounds like it may be a good company to try for.
As many have said, it's a bad time to get in, unless you like abuse. OTOH, not EVERY driver who goes on with the bottom feeders quits, so that may still be viable, although I woulnd't send an enemy there.

There are jobs out there, I see them every day. Most are at smaller local outfits. The pay may not be as good, and the benefits none existent. But it's a job until things pick back up. -
from what i hear, watkins isnt hiring any drivers from Michigan at this time because they dont have enough frieght to bring the drivers home. I was fortunate to not only get an intent to hire letter, but an April 13th orientation that as of friday, was still on (in NJ). I was able to get in a few weeks before they closed hiring in Michigan. This state is terrible.

I've got the letter too; I'm just waiting for things to pick up while trying to get up the bread for school so I don't have another bill over my head when I get out. I guess I'm one on the waiting list, or maybe not, since I told Roxy I'd be doing this.
Evidently the letter doesn't mean all that much then. I'd hate to pay for school and not have a job afterward; I'd just be out the money, since there's only about 3 other companies I'd even work for now that I know what I know.
I certainly can't afford to blow a tuition. -
Well I am now pounding the keyboard searching and posting apps. I am not giving up on WS, BTW. If they are having a hard time wanting me because of my address I will change it. I am going to speak with them about reapplying using family's addresses in places like Ohio or NC. Shoot, my friend in Salt Lake City said I could unroll the sleeping bag at their place if needed. While I am married and her job is based in MI there is nothing saying my address can't be in UT, OH, NC, or anywhere else. I can make this work with whomever I hire on with.

Your license has to be in the state you apply for.
You will also need proof of address such as a bill for which ever state you move to. I looked into doing this too. I also let Roxy know there was a possibilty i would be moving to Cali. She said that as log as i showed some proof such as a gas/elc bill they would transfer me and give me time to get my license changed. But for you, you'd need to change your license first.
I tried that with schnieder a while back. They werent hiring in Mich, but they were in Ohio. I said well i only live about 45mins from toledo anyway, cant i just hire in there, they said no, the state i apply for has to be the state i live in and my license is in. This will be the same for most of these jobs. -
RedFox, what exactly is the letter that you have?? are you going be getting hired here? or did you get a letter saying sorry they wont hire you? iv gotten lost someplace along the reading here.

Letter of intent to hire. Basically states that we are hired if we pass our training and obtain out CDL through the school we stated on our applications.
Watkins canceled my orientation, as well as about 6 others in my school. ALOT of people in my school are panicking as almost every company has put a hiring freeze for michigan. -
Yeah, I talked to Roxy about it and she assured me it was a big Michigan problem, and that my prehire is still valid. I went to the VA yesterday and qualified for the vocational training...lo and behold, they've sent others to the Katlaw school too...so now I won't owe a big loan when I get out there. I've passed the DOT physical, and need to just get the paper forwarded to WS and get a month's bills ahead for my wife's sake. Somehow, I'm gonna do it. Roxy said they're definitely hiring in Ga. right now, but I also heard that the carpet mills in Dalton are going under. It must be furniture then that they're moving. I don't care as long as I get miles and a paycheck.
Much of which will be going to pay off back taxes, thanks to the wonderful world of ebb and flow construction.
