I mean if it is a question you have for today then start from your last 10 hour break would be the best, but you could give me from your last 3 8 & 2 breaks. This way I can make sure you are not in violation. I mean the last consecutive 10 hour break. Not the split 10.
So if you did a 2, 8 & 2, then start with the first 2 and go on. I need times though or I can't help. I could e-mail you a log grid if you know how to put hte lines on it?

log book is in the truck. i'll shoot you the last few days on it to make sur i am right tomorrow. right now i'm taking a break from the truck. i really appreciate the help on this. my biggest problem is the ending of it and understanding the drive/work time hours of it. -
Really if you follow my steps you should come out with your own answers!
A. Go to the end of the previous break (8 or 2 either can be longer) count over 14 and make a mark @ that time on the log. DO THE NEXT STEP TO!
B. Go to the end of the previous break look forward do you have 8 hours in the sleeper or more. The answer of what to do is below
Yes: Count the # of hours in the SLEEPER and count over from your 14 hour mark you just made on step A by that many hours. (remember 8 hours or more extends the 14)
No: Your 14 hour is what you marked on step A. (remember 2 hours does not extend the 14)
C. Add up driving hours in BETWEEN the 8 & 2 (or more) subtract that number from 11 and that is how many hours you have available to drive.
You must get them hours driven before the 14 hour mark is up.
The 2 hour break can be 4 hours, you will start the 14 hour count from the end of the 4 hours. It can be a combination of lines 1 & 2 or line 2 or line 1 for the full 2 hours
The 8 hour break MUST BE IN THE SLEEPER. Any off duty after connected to the 8 hour sleeper break will start the 14 hour clock.
If you use the mark method for a while it will really help you get a better understanding of it.
A few tips since you feel you have the hang of it.
The 2 breaks (8&2) will clear everything prior to the first break. Everything after the first break is still against you or for you (the 8 hour break will be for you, you can extend the 14 hour period)
If you look after your break and look forward all the time you have worked (lines 3 & 4) will not be cleared out until there is a 10 hour consecutive break or a proper 8 & 2 hour break.
That said if you "drive 8 , sleep 2, drive 3, sleep 8, the only time that is being cleared out is the 8 hours of driving. The 3 hours of driving does not have a 10 hour break or a 2 hour break yet.
As people learn the basics I try to teach them why it works the way
it does. When you have it all you will be a great logger
Sorry if I rambled and if it confused you then by all means IGNORE IT -

Don't worry, within 2 years everyone will be running e-logs.

I wouldn't want the 2nd log book found in a bad accident and they weren't sure who's fault it was so.......... I can understand when someone might want to do that-like they need to make $250 to $350 today during business hours not be on a 10 or 18 hour break because they're being sooo honest for a change. They need the money right now and have a plan for that money. Once they cross the line, however, it becomes expected when you may not need that much money anymore or you're scared the odds are catching up to you. Just an opinion.

You wont "choose" to do anything. Youll run legal or youll be out of a job. E-logs man, its all about e-logs. Stop watching 70s trucker movies and worry about getting trained.
