We got brakes. But when the box is all the way up there isn't much weight on the wheels so they just lock up.

Short story from a couple years ago.
We show up for a FFA benefit tractor/truck pull like always. Done it for 10 years or better. Nothing too hot. Max weight they ever got up to was like 12,000#. So we only took half the weights we need for the big stuff.
It turns out somebody built a 5th wheel hitch and
wanted to have a local good old boy semi pull at the end.
    No big deal we thought.
    Wrong.
Along towards dark a couple ntpa semi trucks and diesel pickups pull in on TRAILERS...
Apparently a big pull over in Mn got rained out and they heard about our little pull.
The pickups where pretty wild. But this track is 400+ feet with a good escape at the end.
We never got a good look at the semis until one backed in to hook on.
They had a weight box in place of the 5th wheel and a hitch point about belt level off the back. The thing is lopeing so bad I could hardly idle.
We had a little powwow with the driver. Said we ain't set up for you just burp it a few times and give the crowd a show. THATS IT!
The previous 1,000 something hp pickup had run us out the end and we had some trouble getting the weight box to roll back because you kind of go down a dip at the end of the track. More on this later...

    Get set to go.
He starts winding it up like a jet engine.
The flagman is hiding behind a tree...
Just as he tightened up the chain we heard a poosh of air dumping. I learned later he dumps the air on the back axle so he can ride a taller wheelie.
Sitting on 30+ thousand pounds of pull sled and it felt like a snowmobile talking off when he let her go.
About a millisecond later I realized our weight box ain't moving.
We're rocketing down the track like a jumbo jet. I got one foot hard on the brakes. The other hard on the box brake cause I know what is coming.
I'm trying to pull his tether switch but that ain't working.
The flag man is climbing the #### tree...
Guy is riding a wheelie the whole way. About halfway down the track and 30+ mph he figures something ain't right and gets on the brakes.
We had the pull chain stretched out as far as we could to try and give him less bite. 10' of slack doesn't sound like much but when we piled into him she hit HARD. I had the box brake pounded into the floor but it didn't matter. The 10,000# box on railroad rails going 30mph kept right on going. It piled into the front structure of the sled and pulled the ### end off the sled off the ground while pushing us both another truck length down the track. I #### near went head first over the front.
Have I ever mentioned I hate truck pullers!!

It turns out dad had to throw the box in neutral the previous pull to get it to roll back. And forgot in all the excitement to throw er back in 3rd...
I still give him #### over it but man what a ride!!

I mention a tap at the kitchen sink and get the eyeroll everytime. I spend most of my days in the kitchen or in the garage anyhow. Time saver I think. I keep trying however. The resistance will continue with the management!
