I know why the majors want the change - it will keep wages down in the short term. Long term I don't think it will have an impact.

I want the change because I'm tired of dealing with entitled pricks in their 40's and 50's who have failed at life to the point where their only option is trucking. I'd love to get new guys who WANT to drive a truck, not guys that are only doing it because they can't find anything else and the government has "retrained" them to be truck drivers.

I don't think it's a good idea. 1 or 2 out of 100 will be mature enough for the job. That's a lot of collateral damage to find the 1 or 2.

Yep. But ATA's money talks and OOIDA's BS walks.
I think they'll get what they want in the end. And then later they'll all conduct "serious studies" as to why the accident rates have gone up and as a result, will burden the rest of us with more RULES.
I should be gone by then

Driver shortage is of “Heritage Americans”. Ancestors who fought in the Civil War. (How’s about The War of Jenkins Ear? Anyone top that?).

Immigrants since then have generally gotten worse. Now we even have mental 12-year olds behind wheel. (Not an exaggeration). So even dumb white 18-yr old boys look better. At least they’re equipped by Nature to read mirrors. Many of the others literally CANNOT.

Guess the real cost of buying cheap is far more expensive after all. Who’d a thunk? Every cost of business overhead increased.

I’ve notived past few years that the minute a recruiter hears my voice that they obviously sit up straight. (Ha!)

A company hand needs to think like an O/O. Get a solid business plan. It’s a good time for a younger man than me to plan well and move up:

Claim status for Affirmative Action for soon-to-be-a-minority (2030 or 2050?).

    - Get onboard early with details needed in anti-discrimination law.

    - Study on vocabulary needed for fluid gender assignment.

    - Audio/video every business communication.

    - Cite shippers/receivers for a hostile work environment and blame forced dispatch.

(Abusive language at truckstops and no choice in those fuel stops; another)

Hit them big pocket mega-fleets, transnational corpses and fuel chains with lawsuits. (Cut in an attorney for 40% with some kickbacks).

    Retire before 45.

“. . o brave new world that has such people in it”.

Today's article on the daily driver shortage -

Shortage of drivers in Colorado creates opportunity for immigrants.

This has a hint of truth, but it's because no one in Colorado can pass the freaking drug screen.

Please see the late John Denver-

We had a young guy wander into the office a couple of weeks ago. He was wanting to know how to become a truck driver. Nice enough kid but clueless and probably not Rhodes Scholar material,.
We explained to him about schools and such and gave him a couple of phone numbers. That was fine.
One of our guys mentioned drug testing to him and his reply was "Ya mean I gotta quit smoking altogether or just on the day of the drug test?"
His next question was "How often do companies drug test?"
These questions were asked honestly because it was obvious his life revolved around pot smoking and he had no intention of giving it up for a specific occupation.

Reminds me of back in 2015 when I was working at Western Express I had gone to the TA in Jessup,MD to get a clearance light fixed on a trailer. That place was short handed(8 hour wait for repairs) because 3/4ths of the job applicants couldn’t pass a drug screen!
