Here's another figure for you. My husband has been team driving for Covenant since December 1 after finishing his initial training.

Year-to-date from January 1st to March 25th he has grossed $5700 of which only half of that is taxable (due to forced per diem). So minus out of that your taxes, benefits, etc every week and that will give you an idea of how much he has made so far with one of the worse companies to drive for out there.

I could give you his net but your withholding would probably be different from his so that number won't help you very much.

In 6 months with covenant, I grossed $8000 and I spent over $8400, due to the fact that I had my girl freind and dog with me. If I were to have gotten paid for all the days I sat warming up my thumb,I could have made more....
And 48k a year as a new driver? Sure, thats school and baloney companies trying to hook you into letting them own you. Try 22-24k a year,maybe..the way freight is,and as expensive as it is to live on the road, eating from a can,the familly will also have to cut down to sheer basics....
I came back to FL to drive OTR for an owner op, but he turned out to be a flake and a phonie, no loss...I will go back to hauling gasoline where you can make from 45k to
60k depending how hard you want to work. Hurricane season here guarantees that
$$$$ and work will be abundant for those that hump alot of gas....
Plus I will be home in my bed with a stocked fridge and my toilet nearby....
Don't fall into the lies and deception......
    best wishes mcr&deb..
ps to haul gas you need 1 plus years experience a drivers license and crimminal record that are both virginal.

This is crazy, why would anyone start driving for &24,000 a year. Something is wrong with this picture. I am confused, people tell me that it's an ok living, let me tell you that isn't an OK living. I can barely afford what I have now, I would rather sit on unemployment than to to take another cut in pay like that. Been there done that!
Well, I can say this, I have think twice about this one and the verdict says no f****** way. I can see why people end of devorced now.

People are crazy to except that kind of pay. I know I sit here and say that I want to drive, my wife isn't working and I have two kids, I believe in having to push to get what you want if life but I drawing the line. I don't give blood for a reason, it hurts like hell. I been working in the manufacturing world for 12 years now, it's about as crazy as truck driving I see.

I can understand your frustration on this particular subject. There does seem to be a "minor" fact that you're overlooking. Understand before I say this, I am not being difficult or critical of you here, okay? Being laid off three times and suffering through the financial hardships with it, I'm certain is very difficult itself, and I intend not to take away from that.

The fact remains, however, you have no trucking experience whatsoever. The only companies hiring completely inexperienced and untrained drivers at this time, in this economy, are the companies that pay as absolutely little as they can get by with paying. In this industry, as with any other, there is no fast and easy way to the top tiers in terms of pay, hometime, or any other consideration. If you truly want to become a driver and make a career of it, simply put, there are dues to pay, and you will have to pay them just as everyone else before you has had to pay their dues as well.

And, do what you will, but I can tell you first hand, if your marriage is seriously stressed, OTR trucking will not be the best thing in the world for fixing it unless you want it to end. I'm not saying OTR will kill it, but I am saying if it's already difficult, be prepared for it to get worse before/if it gets better. OTR is tough enough on good marriage let alone a stressed one. Just my .02 cents. Good luck to you.

    Well,
The only thing that is frustrating is our lovely free god loving Governemnt. I do respect the insite on family and marriage. My wife and I are good, we have no issues other than her side of the family but very minor. (I stay away from the things are good.) We been married nine years now and been through alot. So, we both talked about the OTR trucking and decided that if it works out that we can make it work for a while.(be away) Oh, yeah the lack of money thing is the same. Well, I am getting laid off in a few months with a small packackage, so I decided that I was going to start now to take the steps to changing careers, I hope that the economy get better by than but very doubtfull. I just am taking notes right now and apprechiate the replies and information. I can't see myself sitting around on unemployment wondering when the money is going to come or at that, I been working 60 to 70 hours aweek as long as I can remember since my wife stopped working. So, I figured that rather than sit here waiting for the bank to call and tell us they are taking or house, I need to do something. Sorry I am just rambling.

    Thanks again,
    Crusher

Anyone with no trucking experience choosing trucking over collecting unemployment using the "any job is better than no job " logic needs to consider these companies don't hesitate to terminate drivers for minor accidents or log book violations . Then in many states you can't even collect unemployment if your terminated . So if you want to pay several thousand dollars for school and risk being out of work in a few months with a bad DAC that will prevent future job chances , go for it .

This topic, gets pounded in the ground "every week". It's the same ending every time.....NO JOBs available.

Do your family a favor, and stay home with them ! Collect your unemployment, and rest.

Read other forums, and post a lot of questions.... You will find what your looking for, JUST DON'T LIE to yourself, or let your ego say; "I'm smarter, and better than most people.... Those guy's are just whinning"....etc...

Go to your local community Church, and TAKE your family !

The companies have the upper hand "10 fold".... and, MAN,.. "Do they know it"

I disagree with you, for your information any company can do the same as you just pointed out in other forms. Need to think about this for a minute. I don't believe in playing the system, so sitting on umemployment is out of the question. I can't live off from unemployment benifits they call help. I do plan on making a career of what I am interested in.
