Who did you work for?
Odds are he will do this again.
Call the labour board. You are going to be legally defined by law as an employee. (Did you make the truck payments, was the truck in your name?..... No?..... You're an employee.)
No contract or implied contract can supercede labour laws/code.
Revenue Canada is clear on the requirements in order to file as a contractor and you didn't meet them.
Go after this clown. You're an employee and he owes you.
Got scammed by former boss

What is his name?
Not company name. A company name means little to nothing these days. Unscrupulous people change names regularly to shake guys just like you, brokers and tickets.
Put his name out there.
Freight brokers watch these boards. If a freight broker sees his name they might think twice about giving a load to a guy who BS's people. Especially if they think that this guy might cost them a customer or money.
Don't worry about making him mad. It won't mean anything to you or for you. The labour board will rule once you file the complaint and his opinion of you won't mean anything.Canadianhauler21 and daxus Thank this. -

Here he is.
Maybe if he sees that his dirty laundry is aired in public.....he might just pay you to have you go away.

As and employee you're not responsible for the mistakes of your employer.
Once you're declared an employee you can hand that order from CRA over to the Canada Labour Code people and appeal any motion to consider you a subcontractor.
If you: took on any business risk, bought your own truck, owned shares in the company you drove for, are in any way a relative of the company you drove for, had more than one employer you drove for, etc. then that will make you look like anything other than a guy driving a truck for somebody else.
Worst Case scenario: You may actually be a legitimate business with serious legal issues to contend with such as why you didn't file and pay taxes as an employee under your own business. CRA will basically assess whether it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and has wings like duck. If it does then they will probably decide that it's a duck and you're duck will then be well cooked.
But still, don't wait for anything. Assess your books and figure out what you are owed, talk to an employment lawyer about severance and constructive dismissal, and file as soon as possible with Canada Labour Code.daxus Thanks this. -
