Hiking or going for a run or actually going into a bar or restaurant and actually talking to people is disconnecting from the world. Immersing yourself in electronics and video games is the opposite of that. Its become an addiction with people, on the same level as pills or porn.

To your point of addiction I would not disagree in this case since our OP is considering spending several hundred dollars strapping an easily stealible gas genny to the catwalk of the truck against company wishes.. But gaming or porn for that matter does not automatically cause addiction.

The get out and mingle thing has it's own problems as most establishments pillage our wallets these days. Better off cooking in the truck and playing video games.. Using facetime socially. Less potential trouble and far cheaper. I refuse to pay $15 - 20 for a sub par meal. And let's face it.. Most truck drivers are ######## and only want to tell you how much more money they make. Not good conversation in general if you ask me. Same reason my CB stays off 90% of the time.

I am a big gamer, and I quit my first company, cause of that reason. I had desktop in my truck and enough space for my mouse. I ran hard and I still had enough time to game, whether its unloading or layover. I enjoyed my time being out there, because I had my games.
Get your experience and got to a company with inverter and apu. There is no other way around.
Edit: I asked specifically for t680, because it's got that table by your feet. This truck is perfect to game in

The office was two steps from the house (Cab and sleeper.)

When we have had enough of the road we went home. There we can literally unwind from the tension of that work. It's a matter of when. It got very easy to go by the house all the time when I hauled medicine. It's 40 minutes give or take depending on which cardinal direction I came through from.

No one is more anxious to enjoy life. If we took a week on the Bay say in Tidewater and never saw the truck the whole time feasting on that local seafood? Awesome. We could care less if it burned. (The truck) but at some point it's time to get rolling.

THAT is the ultimate price of trucking. Having to leave the house on a sunday afternoon when family or friends are still working over the after church dinner you will not have time to have. It is more important to be in the midwest or deep south appt time by morning. Get going. I have nephews and nieces, some are married and bearing children themselves now. I hardly know them. And vice versa. I don't worry about it. I have had people wanting me to stay a few days and see if there is a future between us, but when I have a truck in another state waiting on me with tickets in the pocket, Im a'going. Who knows when I will be back.

Did I waste my life? no. But what was lost can never be retrieved so you move on. At some point the trucking will stop as well. For a variety of good life reasons. Hopefully if it does, you are happy wherever you are.

Im actually working on getting the CDL back, am in talks with my team of doctors with several of them fixing to exam me really good to see where I am at before I do it or not. In the meantime repairs continue medically.

There are many who will get into trucking and make a armful of gold nuggets each day. IF they are careful and save most of it they will be able to stand at a US Map on the wall, throw a dart on it and buy any property in the Nation cash.

That is the great oppertunity. This Nation has some very good land. Land you will want to make a home on with plenty of room.

I got married and when I was dispatched out for a minimum of two weeks with a new company as a experiment, spouse asked me.. am I going to be a trucker wife wondering if you have someone in every port? Very valid question. We solved that by getting her a CDL and team with me however long or short we could do it. We do not regret that at all.

What would be regretful is to sit playing games or chasing nothing at all when oppertunity awaits to build a future of your life. 10, 30 years later. I don't mind a little escape, god knows Ive done enough Photon, qzar, laser storm etc. (That was my game, very physical hunting humans) Eventually I got too slow for that and kids shoot me up. HA.... I just get in the way. I had my fun. And good ones too.

Never said that, but as a new driver I don’t think gaming set ups in the truck should be the priority. That’s all I am saying.

    I don’t think anything.
I work for a good company. Really nice 2018 Pete. APU. Big inverter. Mount on the wall for a 32 inch flat screen. Refrigerator. Gourmet coffee. purple 3 mattress. George Foreman grill. Only thing I’m missing is a Jenny Lopez teddy bear.
BTW.... make sure your trailer doesn’t wipe your generator off your cat walk.

There are some nice handheld units out there that can help you get your fix. I have a GPD XD and it can emulate everything up to PS1/PSP/DS very well. It's a clamshell design running android. You can find them on ebay used for $100-120 all the time.

They also make a slightly larger one called the GPD Win that has much more power and can do low end windows gaming.

Both of these can easily charge off DC just like your phone.
