Got loaded up today with bales of recycling. The trailer walls look like they are buldging outwards when you look from the outside. The shipper packed up the trailer really tight.

Just wondering if it's anything to worry about.

Paint the trailer with vertical stripes - they are very slimming.

Bulging sides aren't an issue, if the cat scale says you're legal gross and axle, have at it.

Thanks for your reply. Much appreciated. I am 76900 gross legal on all axles.

It’s possible you could be too wide and it’s possible but real unlikely that a DOT officer will notice and say something about it.

Tire loads will bulge out like that and you hear the rare story of a driver having to restack them behind a scale house.

You also hear of drivers being put oos for not having starched white sheets in case we are invaded and the army requisitions us to transport supplies to the front and carry wounded soldiers back.

Being over width is a real thing and it does happen. People do get caught and hammered for it. Op, yes you need to worry about it. I would run it, just be wise about what scales you pull into.

FL for example checks your width as you pull in, they’ll nab you every time.

I passed through MN scale, luckily didn't hit the scale. Still have to go through IL, MI, OH, and PA.

I'll keep an eye on them scales.

    Thanks for the input.

If DOT has eyes that sharp to consider that fat trailer that has gotten obese... then they truly don't have anything pressing at that moment.

Ive done fat trailers before without a thought. Then again when I really think about how easy for those rivets to unzip... yeesh.

Cameras. Heck, it's even all automated now so all the scalemaster needs to do is glance at the monitor and look for the blinking red warning....
They know the exact dimensions as you cross the scales. The question becomes do they care?
