My husband has quit taking insulin because we couldn't find a Dr. that would deal with the hassle of completing all the paperwork. His numbers are good so far, so we are hoping they will stay that way, so that he can get back in his truck. It's odd, the DOT will let you drive if you are sick and aren't taking insulin, but when you do decide to take it and are getting better they are afraid you are going to hurt someone out there while you are driving.. Go figure

    Rerun,
Let me know how things go for you. This waiver thing is so frustrating. My husband is working 60 hours a week for 9.00 an hour and would love to get back in a truck again. Says: He never realized how he missed driving until he had to work this job.... It is hard to watch him deal with this, he has lost a lot of self-esteem.

Rerun, I have answered your statement about taking care of yourself when driving twice and can't find where I posted it. Anyway you are certainily right and yes he has read all of the rules you must follow to keep the diabetes waiver. Thanks for your input.

LOL I know what you mean...I did see your reply and if I find it, I'll post the location for you ...I just signed up on here and would like to put in my 2 cent here but not sure if I should...Would like to see the MOD'S update the posts...reading down thru and some are 3 and 4 years old. I have started reading posts and then after that realized that the trucker who wrote it might not even be in the business anymore or the post has went totally off into something else because it's SOOOOOOOOOOOO OLD. Just my thoughts. :biggrin_2552:

My husband tried to obtain the waiver, it is really complicated. Having the physical first is part of the application process. The Federal Motor Carriers have six-months to reply to your application. It usually takes four-months. I talked first to a lady that worked for the diabetic waiver dept. When she said it was four months she was pretty well on track. My husband didn't qualify because his Dr. said he had Hypo-Glycemic unawareness. This was because when my husband first went on the insulin he didn't understand what was going on with his body. Even though he now has it under control his Dr. wouldn't change his mind. Said, he had a friend in Med. school that was sued for giving someone the okay to drive, their was an accident and you know the rest. He gave up and went off the insulin, which really freaked me out. He has been watching what he is eating and using Byetta( and injectable, but not considered insulin). He is doing good, going to take his physical tomorrow. Yea,,,

    Rerun,
I think you should look at that in a positive manner. After all they didn't refuse you. What kind of paperwork was it? My husband took his DOT physical and passed yesterday. So now lets see how easy it is to get a job. Good luck with your application.
