OOIDA says driver shortage is a myth

All you have to do is go to an orientation and look for an empty chair.. Schools are stretched thin trying to fit and train applicants. I've never seen it not this way...

As someone who was a dock worker at one of the biggest carriers before going to OTR, and also regularly seeing orientation classes; I can confirm it's BS and always has been.. I think it started back in the nineties..

They went through some statistics a while back on the Dave Nemo show about the number of new CDL holders in recent years. I can’t remember the numbers but it was a lot of new CDLs granted. What they’re doing with the CDL is unknown I guess. There’s a lot more you can use a CDL for than a class 8 truck hauling freight. There could be a real driver shortage but you can’t know until you fix the retention problem. If you have an 80-100% turnover, of course you’re going to be short drivers.

 

Us department of labor Sent out a release last week stating there is no driver shortage because the labor statistics don't show it and haven't.

 

You can't have a "driver shortage" when people are having to jump school to school cause there are no empty spaces..

When this started back in the nineties it was the same deal. It's basically selling schools to the public.. This industry is just so full of ######## that nobody points out companies have full orientations and plenty of drivers..
