N14 is a good motor. injectors can be an issue on some of them, not all. and they injectors are expensive. see if there is a repair history on the truck. And i'd never buy a truck without a dyno run it can tell you tons more then you think

How is it a million mile motor if you gotta pull the heads? lol. Thats major work, also it usually needs bearings at 600k so i wouldnt call it a million mile motor. I had one and left a very very very sour taste in my mouth, never to own one again.
Brickman Thanks this. -
They all break down, they all have their problems. Most everybody i know has a cat, some have had good luck and some have had problems, 2 c-15's never made 500k before everything but the cylinder kits replaced, another made 500k but the oil filter spun off and took out everything, a 3406 with hot codes, power box and a stage 3 charger made 700k before an o-haul and now at 950k is drinking water plus has crapped 3 not very old injectors in the last 2 years, a bridge cat thats had atleast 1 or 2 holes replaced under warranty and also a turbo from those sleves inside the manifold going through it, a c-15 with marine inj and big charger @450k needed a head gasket and bearings. But I also know a guy with a c-16 with over 800k on it thats had marine inj and stage 5 turbo on it since it was 2 weeks old that has only replaced the oil cooler and a couple of those inj. and another guy that just o-hauled his c-15 with hot codes and a power box with 950k that had only replaced the oil pan. Most of those guys got their money's worth out of their motors. I would own a c-15/16 but I would not turn down a truck that I really wanted just to have one

I had one it was set at 460 injectors and ECM are both junk and expensive to replace those was the main problems I had oil pump always seaped the E7 I have now will pull more idling than the N-14 would on the mat
-
what do you need 100psi of oil pressure for, 10gpm # 30 psi is the same as 10 gpm # 100 psi unless my math is wrong. Also I believe injectors are about the same price for cat or cummins
-
The problem with this is our local area has no dyno closest one is out of state utah 189 miles or boise 250 miles. Kenworth local will do a blowby test for about 80 bucks. Will that work?
-
The two I mentioned were 5.2 for the weak cumapart, and 5.8 for the cat. Pulling the same trailer doing the same work.
LMAO at all the CAT haters that have come out in this thread. -
I dont think there cat haters ,they just feel cummins is better as for me ive driven alot of cats and a few cummins.
And from my limited experience cats shift better and lug down going up steep hills, very steep hills, better!
The cummins seem less problamatic and get better fuel mileage,,, again from my limited expierence !
Problem with me is i just drove and didnt pay attention to engine models and now when i need it im screwed.
If i didnt pay the operating cost id have a cat hands down ,,, but i own a cummins. -
I had a N-14 injetors was $450 a hole fuel pump was $900 ECM $2300 it ate 2 of those so tell me again how cheap a Cummins is to work on
550hpW900L Thanks this. -
Cummins less problematic? WAKE UP. They dont call them cumapart for nothing
