You should check into this, but, I don’t think you can get a CDL until age 21, and can’t cross state lines until you are 23. But, things change, by the time you are 18, laws may be different. But, even if they aren't, don't give up...you'll be old enough before you know it. Someday, you'll wish you were young! Here is a bit of advice a neighbor friend gave me when I was your age...don't wish your life away! Be happy being the age you are. You can’t go backwards.

It’s ok to make plans for what you want to do when you are older. In fact, you should. Put pictures up of those plans so you can visualize them, set goals for yourself, many smaller goals that you can achieve along the way, then work hard to achieve them....and NEVER quit! Look back on occasion to see that you achieved the goals you set out and, if you didn’t make it, don’t quit, reprioritize them and make a new plan.

Get your education. Have a hobby. It makes you a well-rounded person, capable of talking to someone about something other than just what you do for a living. Take interest in others. Nobody likes to hear about you, your problems or your ideas, but, they can talk endlessly about themselves! And, when they are done doing so, they will say "Gee, I like that guy, he is super nice and easy to talk with!" Sure! Because, they talked about themselves all night!!!

Next…READ!!! Study about trucks, but, also study about yourself and what makes people tick. Read an additional 10 or 15 minutes daily from motivational and self-help books. Read from the Bible too.

Some of the best motivational books come from the masters of it. Zig Ziglar was, in m humble opinion, the best at it! He wrote several books on selling…I am NOT trying to make you a salesman, but, EVERYTHING you do in life will be about how you THINK, how you present yourself and your ideas, what you think about other people, how good you are at reading their reactions and most importantly how you REACT…life is 15% action and 85% REACTION. The best sales people in the world are motivated people who understand what makes people tick, how to read them and understand psychology and simply have it in their nature to help people. The sell not because of their action, but, how they react when someone gives them an objection.

He wrote a book everyone should read called “How to Win Friends and Influence People”. It teaches you how to THINK, believe in yourself, set goals and achieve them and mostly, how what you do or say effects others and how important it is to get others to LIKE you. When people like you, they will go out of there way for you to help you. The title of that book is really deceiving.

Napoleon Hill wrote several good books, probably the best work he did was the book “Think and Grow Rich”. I don’t know any successful person who hasn’t heard of it. “You Can’t Steal Second with your Foot on First” written by Fred Wilcox. This book is about taking risk. You want to own a truck or run a ANY business? That is a HUGE risk. You need to understand what risk is and how to avoid mistakes and going broke.

There are TONS more. You start to read them, you will find more. It isn't to say the more modern writers aren't good, but, these guys were out doing it when nobody else ever HEARD of motivational literature. They are who the modern guys LEARNED from. These books are your education from self-made millionaires! You can’t buy a college education as good as the knowledge that are in these books. Study them, know them. They will help you in all facets of life. And, the best part, they are written from the heart, so, they are EASY to read, and addictive…they will help you expand your mind and teach you how to erase bad habits that even at your young age you have already started. They will teach you how to be confident and smart. How to treat others the way you want to be treated, which is one of the most valuable things you can learn in life. To be successful, you need people to like you…the easiest way to do that is to understand what people want and to treat them the way they want to be treated. Finally, we all set limits on ourselves…we listen to and believe the things told to us by our peers, teachers, parents, family…some of those things you have heard you will learn will be some of what holds you back from reaching your goals, so, you learn how to break free and set your horizons on winning. Self-talk is a very strong influencer. Your inner dialogue needs to be honed so that you keep yourself running like a well-oiled machine.

Take the advice these authors give…work on yourself…because NOBODY is going to do that for you. They don’t teach stuff like this in school….they REALLY should. But, this will all help you achieve your goals for ANYTHING you want to accomplish. The sooner you learn how to do this, the more engrained it will become in your mind and the sooner you will benefit in life in general.

I know this probably sounds like crazy talk coming from someone you don't even know, but, a lot of our problems in life are self-created and, we hold ourselves back from achieving our full potential. You got a lot already going for yourself at 12 years and 11 mo. I think it would be cool to hear back from you along the way and watch your progress.

I am convinced, you can do anything you want, if you put your mind to it and work harder than anyone else will. So many people go to work every day, day after day, HATING their job, hating their life. They are so #### miserable, and, they take it out on their kids, their spouse, their minister, the few friends left who will stick with them and their neighbors! What an UGLY miserable existence that must be!

That is NOT what God intended for us! That is not how He wants to see us spend our existence here on earth, making ourselves and those around us miserable.

I have always told my kids “Do what you love, what is your passion, be the very best at it and the money will follow you”.

When you do what you love, what is your true passion; it is no longer a “job” it is fun! For me, life is WAY too short to not have fun, to not love what you are doing in it and to laugh.

I cant really make out any of the trucks in the pics. It's good to look, but, 5 years from now, you realize they will all be different!

I'm not as big a fan of Cat motors. I have had a few...C-13 & a C-15. The 15 was fine, they were BOTH fine...but, parts on a Cat are WAY more expensive...and if you aren't doing the labor, that is more too than a Detroit. They also aren't as fuel efficient as the Detroits.

Back when I first started trucking, diesel was under a $1 a gallon, we really didn't give fuel costs a big thought. It seems like, we have been conditioned to think that anything below $3 a gal is a DEAL!

If you put 100k mi a year on a truck, and can get 6 MPG versus 5, that is a 20% improvement in fuel economy...if you spend $50K a year on fuel, that is $10K per truck.

When you get there, think about rear end ratios, tire sizes, stuff like that.

Just to give you an idea, I have 1.54 million on my Intl...it was time to rebuild the rears. At the same time, I dropped the gear ratio from 3.90 to 3.42, I haven't really ran it enough to feel confident, but, I know I picked up at least 1 and maybe 1.5 MPG. Plus, I am putting less wear on the motor because of the lower RPM's we run now.

As far as tires and rear end i always have liked 24.5 tires and 3.55 rears also i know a guy with a w9 and has 1.4 million miles on the motor no rebuild its a acert cat i have had great experiences with cats.
