All this talk about clock positions and backing makes ZERO sense to me... I guess that must be like Core Math??? Supposed to make it easier for the new generations, but makes no sense to the old timers???
My way...
Find your spot, pull past and away from it to point trailer toward hole, stopping with truck and trailer slightly angled so you can see the rear corner of trailer and the hole in your mirror. Push that trailer back and around into the hole, keeping the tandems as close to the front corner of the truck beside your chosen hole without taking off his mirrors as possible. Always be mindful not to hook a fender or front bumper on anything opposite of the hole, as you come back under trailer. And of course GOAL whenever there is doubt.
What if it Snows?

That road, OR 58 has or was closed this week. Three land/mud slides.

I went over 20 in between avalanches. I'm satisfied with that. I was at the top going " Wow, this is F up." There really wasn't room for two trucks to go by in opposite directions for about a hundred yards, and it was just snowing like F nuts. The snow wall was well out into the roadway, and there were several front clips, and various other pieces from trucks laying there lol.
I was just hoping I didn't meet anyone coming east. There weren't that many people up there then. And they closed it a little bit after that, they had to make that opening bigger lol.InTooDeep, lovesthedrive and Lepton1 Thank this. -

Same basic idea, the clock positions are just to give some kind of reference point beyond "turn in out a little, then come back a bit, and you're there".
The reality is you can get it in regardless of your set up, if you watch and respond to what the trailer is telling you. But if you are watching your trailer, you will set up well. In other words, engage brain before engaging the transmission.Opus, InTooDeep, Dave_in_AZ and 3 others Thank this. -
I like that saying... Unfortunately, I think to many of the "drivers" out here now days have slipped the clutch on their brain a little to much.kemosabi49, InTooDeep, Dave_in_AZ and 2 others Thank this.

All this talk about O'Clocks seems useless to me. A poster whom used to post here ( Big Don) would tell you. Unless you own a trailer, dont get into a habit of how to back a trailer. They will all track differently in reverse, as they are only alligned for going forward.
Cattleman84 Thanks this. -
Well eight o'clock coffee is simply the best period.
Lepton1 and lovesthedrive Thank this.
