Oh, I kind of didn't answer the question. Sorry. I would never wash a truck at my own expense. Absolutely not. I don't care if the company expects that, they can go ahead and fire me.

As a company driver i’ve paid out of my pocket to have my truck washed pretty often. See the door may have “their” name on it, but it’s my face behind that glass! Now i was never ever required to do so, in fact every trucking job i’ve had allowed at least one Streakin Beacon per month. It’s just some times that was to long of a wait for me.

Remember “Everyday is a truck show”.

If the company required me to pay, i’d find a new job

Yes I am a fleet owner and yes it comes out of the expenses but the drivers pay for it, write an expense receipt with times on it and attach it to the original receipt then send it in to get their money and pay. I can say that this happens every day of the week and it is not a big deal for fleet owners who run their business right.

Absolutely. As long as you are reimbursing them, that is fine.

Whoever owns the truck...pays for the truck wash. Can't ever expect it to come out of driver pay. Maybe temporarily, but always reimburse. If I trust a driver enough I'd give a credit card with say a $500 hard limit for such expenses. No big deal. Or have an account setup at BB or local shop or whatever.

Our company takes care of washing the trucks in the yard. We have high school kids, usually the sons of drivers or mechanics, come in every weekend and wash every truck.
If the driver wants to do some washing during the week we'll pay him as long as he doesn't get carried away with the time. We pay by the hour so most of the drivers will give the truck some attention.
But when they're running hard and bumping up against their hours it's a lot to ask and we sure wouldn't ask them to do it for free.

It goes deeper than just washing a truck. As a reefer puller I was washing out one sometimes two times a week. Most all the washes will accept a comcheck/EFS and Blue beacon in most locations had an account setup for us. If my FM sent me to a blue beacon to washout he sent in an OK to do so. We never really washed the trucks. Most of the time during my hometime and parked at the terminal the shop would do PMs and wash the tractors. Really never was a problem for me!

Really sort of simple, company truck, company pays.
If you want something that is considered personal property, like installing an inverter, that you should cover.

Always get 2 (two) receipts when you are requested to purchase or pay for something. Turn one in for reimbursement, keep the other until it’s paid.
