The thing about that is that you could use that argument against anything. For example "I know when I'm drunk better than some bureaucrat thousands of miles away and when I can safely drive and when I can't."

Thing is that YOU might be responsible enough to run safely without any kind of HOS rules at all, but look at some.of these drivers out here.

The existence of HOS rules isn't the issue. It's the inflexibility of them. With paper logs we could invent some flexibility. Now that's no longer an option for most of us we need some flexibility that's actually built into the rules. They oroproba should have done this before the ELD mandate was finalized. But we all know that the government lacks the ability to think things through first. "Legislate now. Tweak later." has become.thr norm.

I don't know. I think the only thing we have coming out of this area now has been Miller.

When was the last time you've seen a Smuckers load from anywhere? I don't think I've seen one since November.

The 14 needs more flexibility. Let it at least stop when sitting around for a few hours getting loaded. Driver can take naps!

So I need some guidance with this. Dispatch dropped the ball on my home time. Pat got me headed to Trenton like he usually does when home time is coming up. I drop in Trenton last night, put in my ready call like I always do so they can give me something to take home. Was given a number just like everyone else last night. I didn't think anything of it. Sat all morning. Figured "Ok they're trying to find something because home is a long way to deadhead me. Although they have done that in the past. Well finally this afternoon I get load information: .A beer load due in ILLINOIS tomorrow. I'm due home at 0800 tomorrow and it's my mom's birthday. So I send dispatch a message telling them that I'm due home in the a m. They take me off the load but tell me "Sorry there's nothing we can do for you. Talk to your dispatcher in the morning."

How upset should I be about this?

Well it sucks I understand. How far of a deadhead we talking? Also just from my experience if there is something you need/want home for dont put hometime for that exact day. Put hometime for the day prior.
How many times have you requested hometime that this has happened? Its rare here from my experience but it does happen. Freight is fd up right now

This is the first time this has haopened like this. There was that other time where the only way I made it home on time was to violate my HOS but I did make it.

It's 250 miles to the house, so I can understand them not wanting to DH me that far but some communication would have been nice. It's Sunday. I can't even rent a car and drive it home today if I needed to get home that badly. A "hey man we are having problems finding you a load home and we really don't want to send you home empty. So if you really need to be home then, you need to have somebody pick you up in Trenton or make other arrangements" or something to that effect instead of here at the last minute "Sorry bro can't get you home."

    dwells40 Thanks this.

Totally agree and unfortunately, and this isn't going to make things better lol, but from my experience with weekend dispatch Im not surprised. Exact reason I'm glad Opie preplans his guys 99.99% of the time. Im sure when reg dispatch comes in they will make things right, but not going to help your 0800 hometime request.
