I’ve had my SCAC code since last year, but not once was I required to present it to anyone. Some broker packages ask for it, but it appears to be optional. I think I’ve seen brokers use their SCAC code instead. By the way, I haul reefer. I think it’s useless to pay $76 for something I’m not even sure I’ll ever need. Any thoughts?
Should I Renew my SCAC Code?

Have not needed it since the last time on a port.
Like 7 years ago.TheLoadOut and PE_T Thank this. -
Well to get into port of Baltimore by yourself you need Emodel. To get Emodel you need a SCAC code. That’s pretty much where I see it benefiting. If from time to time you go to the ports for pick up or delivery

I didn’t have it for like my first 8 yrs. Then a few yrs ago a broker required it so we had to rush and figure out what to do and get setup. It is nice to have handy for when it’s asked for. Somehow I feel like it makes us a little more “official” and big company like for only $76/yr which as you know is pretty much nothing in trucking.
I can lean to the side to fart and at least that much comes out.PE_T Thanks this. -

How do I get one? Google it I suppose, I’ve been asked for it many times, always put N/A, however a few yrs back I noticed a Shipper had one assigned to Me. They must have made it up for their system, as I’ve never applied for or needed one. Good to know about some Ports requiring it though. If I break down and get a Twix card maybe I’ll get Me one of those fancy official scac, codes. Then I’ll be an important Truckdriver. Along with my fancy clip board. Lol

i use mine quite a bit but i haul cross border freight from canada, if you never haul out of ports or across borders and don't have plans to then you probably don't need it. its pretty easy to get again if you find that you need it later.
