Polishing is an art, I’m not good at it. I’ve done it a fair amount put never looks as good as I think I should. Hand polishing a tank or wheel that’s in good shape is one thing but cutting and buffing is another thing all together.

Yes I use bars. All the pros use big 6000 rpm grinders. They are not variable speed. They are heavy and torquie.
I learn a little more each year. This year it looks like on most of the wheels I can get away with one cut with the big grinder, orange wheel and brown bar. Then just hand apply liquid polish and take it back off with a flannel wheel at 1500 RPM.
Habbib In tri cites Washington washed a few of my wheels with a broken broom back in November. Scratched the heck out of 4 of them. I had to do 3 sanding steps where the scratches were.
The big grinder seems to leave a little better finish in my opinion. The speed stays very consistent.
I am using a lot less rouge this year and it’s much easier to keep clean. In the past I had to use acetone to get the rouge off. Well that was a mistake..... you want to leave it on there, that is what protects the shine.
Sorry, I guess I’m nerding out.......SL3406, Grubby, PoleCrusher and 23 others Thank this. -

I’m interested, I have a big Dewalt grinder, it’s heavy and powerful. It’s wicked if it catches something, the lip on my headache rack chain box catches the pad and it’ll yank it out of your hand. I burned up a 4 1/2” Milwaukee this winter but it was easier until it fried.Grubby, PoleCrusher, blairandgretchen and 17 others Thank this.

Tug’s wife is mad when he walks inside. You spent all day working and polishing on that truck. Tug responds “I saved. I thought that meant something to you.”

My wife is a car girl. She sports a Corvette. Loves to tool around in my lifted duramax with no muffler. For her wedding gift she wanted (and got) a mustang GT. That’s the last thing she gets mad about.
